squonk 41,017 #4 Posted September 21, 2013 I may very well have my left arm in a sling come Thanksgiving. I'm working on my tall chute blower now. Replaced the chain, jack shaft brgs. and idler sprockets and hope to have it mounted on Marvin this weekend. Then it will be chains and weight box on my Power King. Deck will stay on the 160 until leaves quit but the filled Ag's will go on soon. The 704 can pull the sweeper. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have an nos snow cab that needs to go on big Jim's 417 and the two stage blower had the chain fall off at the end of last winter so I need to check that out as well. When I had my camper the season was just beginning for me at this time of year! I kept my camper at a beautiful Camp ground in Kent CT seasonally. I'd go every weekend until the leaves were down. Of course back then I didn't have kids and all the activities kids are involved in. I won't miss the weather of summer 2013 too much. It seemed as though it was either raining or hot and humid as hell. I hate the humidity, it makes me miseable and easily agitated. This time of year is my favorite, the air is crisp and fresh. Its also time that I enjoy riding the tractors around the most and droppin the top on the old ladies Jeep and going for a nice country drive. This season I'll give the Wheel Horse sweeper a try with the leaves that I got from Craig with the 42 inch rear discharge on the 417. I bought a Snapper rear engine rider with a rear bagger on it for my Dad so he can clean up his leaves. I added electric start to it this week for him and did a few other minor repairs on it. I've been putting it thru its paces this week making sure its good to go. These are the best tractors for picking up leaves in a yard that isn't too big. Besides sucking up the leaves they pickup acorns, twigs and ya better make sure you pick up the dog muffins before you use it! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Brought the offshore boat home from Delaware and winterized it last week. Will bring the crabbing boat home and close and winterize the camp next week. Altered the battery box on the 4 wheeler to replace the motorcycle battery with a HD tractor battery. Put the WH plow on the 4 wheeler. I plow most of my snow with this rig. Put the blower on the C-120 just in case we get more than the Yammy can plow. Also use the 120 to haul in my firewood. The Techy has never failed to start in the cold. Will keep the 42"deck on the Raider 12 to mulch and sweep leaves used to mulch the strawberrys. Still gotta hang a few deer stands. Then I'm ready. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

stevasaurus 22,704 #13 Posted September 21, 2013 Actually, this summer in Chicago Land was one of the best summers on record for me...great cool weather, only 2 warm spells for a few days, rain when we needed it and not too much. Don't quote me on this, but I almost hate to see this one go. Of course...I have been ready for snow for the last 4 years. Then I ran her up and down the street to get rid of the flat spots on the tires from sitting around for almost 7 months with all the wheel weights on. Bring on the snow!! CasualObserver 3,408 #21 Posted September 23, 2013 I'm not ready for snow yet... but I did get a good jump on fall work in the last couple days. After a very dry last few months here, we finally got a decent soaking rain last week. Not wanting to miss a chance to at least get some holes plugged from the yard, I got one run of aerating done. Not a great one, plugs were only averaging 1 1/2-2 inches. But at least it's something. Hoping that opening up a little will increase the absorption of the next good rain and I'll run it again for some deeper plugs before overseeding/fertilizing. Over the summer, I picked up an estate rake. Anyone else use one of these? I thought it would be fantastic on my large open property. I thought it worked pretty well. The nicest part overall is you never have to stop to clean the tines like I had to do with my regular dethatcher. It does a pretty good job of wind-rowing. I thought I'd go for larger windrows and would rake about 4-5 passes into one row for the sweeper. Of course I was all the way done before I realized this was a bad idea. The front of the sweeper just collected the majority of it and act like a dozer blade just dragging it all into a big pile instead of sweeping it up. So.... next year... only two passes per windrow. Hoping to get to change over to winter goodies before too much longer. I'm just not convinced that we're not due for some nice grass growing weather in early October this year. redidbull 54 #22 Posted September 23, 2013 My 73 No Name has no mower but I use it for the blade and to de-thatch with the pull behind. The lil Lawn Ranger does the mowing. It will get a revamp over the winter and the 73 will get the blower and the chains mounted in the next week or 2. timo4352 147 #23 Posted September 23, 2013 (edited) I've got my blower ready, as well as the cab - patched up some thin spots in the canvas. The deck stays on for now for mulching leaves. The switch from deck to snowblower is so easy it really only takes a few minutes. Already got a new belt for the blower - the old one will be my spare.The cab takes a little longer to install. I've got weights and chains ready, but I'm still on the fence about filling my rear tires. I think I'll try it the first year without and see how it does. I've got snowblower tires on the front already. Hoping for some good snowfalls this winter to test out my new toy! Still gotta change the oil in there somewhere.
