dbartlett1958 96 #1 Posted September 20, 2013 Well folks, I am trying to help my brother in law get his 112 going. I believe it is a 1969. It had the Tecumseh HH100 engine, which he overheated due to low oil and bad bearings on the mower deck. I have found a replacement engine that the seller says has a good charging system. Today I hooked up the battery and fired it up. Sort of. The tractor will start and run as long as the key switch is held in the start position. When turned back to "Run", it will stall or shut off. I believe the switch is bad, but cannot find one like it. This switch has 4 spade terminals on the back labeled "D, S, B, and C". Does anybody have any idea what I can use for a switch on this machine. This engine has the electronic ignition, no points. While we are at it, does anyone know if I can retrofit a semi modern voltage regulator on to this tractor, The current one has 3 terminals marked "AC, B+, AC" and has "Repco FG-4720B" on the front. . Thanks for any and all help.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,045 #2 Posted September 20, 2013 Check to see if the rusted terminal is connected to the B+ terminal inside the regulator. Use an ohmeter for that. If it is you can connect one AC stator wire to the B+. Same thing. You are connecting them outside the regulator instead of the original inside connection. dbartlett1958 96 #3 Posted September 21, 2013 Garry, Thanks for the reply. The rusted AC terminal does not connect with the B+ terminal. I think I can salvage the regulator as I could always solder a new jumper to get around the rusted terminal. The ignition switch seems to be my biggest issue. Wheel-N-It 2,969 #4 Posted September 22, 2013 I'm a bit familiar with the Tecky powered JD112. My first thought to your problem is the mag wire may be getting grounded out when you release the key switch back into the run position. I would (at the engine) take the mag wire out of the circuit first, start the engine and see what happens. Whatever happens you can rule this in or out and go from there. dbartlett1958 96 #5 Posted September 23, 2013 Van, Thanks for that bit of information. Are you talking about the wiring harness plug? I will give that a go when I get a chance, but will be a couple days. I have been figuring out the ignition switch details in my head so I can come up with a workaround for that. I am 99% sure the switch has an internal failure, but that may only be part of the issue. David

On a Kohler that wire is white. Dont know about the Tecky. Maybe one of the tecky guys can help here. Or, you can send Craig (AMC Rules) a PM.
dbartlett1958 96 #7 Posted September 23, 2013 Van, I get what you're saying. I think the key switch has an internal fault, causing this. According to what info I can find, this key switch is grounded through the case to the tractor, so any internal issue could be causing this to happen. Further diagnostics and time needed.
