CallahanAuto 0 #1 Posted September 19, 2013 My baby died today. A rod came through the engine block while I was cutting the grass earlier. It was awful..... anyways.. sniff sniff.... Are there anyway drop in and go engine replacements that do not have the oil starving problems of the k17's? If I dont replace the engine what comparable W.H. should I look for? Keeping in mind that I have the matching plow, snowblower, and dump cart. These attachments get plenty of use and I would like to keep using them. Thank you for your time and knowledge
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #2 Posted September 19, 2013 Find a KT17 Series II or a larger single kohler 14 or 16hp...
daveoman1966 3,745 #3 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I am near Meadville, PA...not far from PGH and I have a good Kohler 14 Magnum that should make a fit. This engine came from a Wheelhorse 414-8 and I've had it for a couple of years, on the shelf. It is complete with all tin and wiring. my email is: daveoman@windstream.net For more pics and details, send me a direct email. SousaKerry 501 #5 Posted September 19, 2013 You will need a different belt guard and you will have to remove the shaker plate and bolt directly to the frame to use a single cylinder engine in that tractor. Also the PTO hoop is different.
JackC 617 #6 Posted September 20, 2013 I see plenty of tractors (C-175s and 417s) with KT17s or KT 17 IIs for around $500 on Craigslist. I picked up a 417-A with a 500 hour KT17 II in it for $250. The sheet metal was rough and the PO could not start the engine due to electrical problems that were easy to fix.

Also the PTO hoop is different. Would this different PTO hoop affect any of the attachments? what style would I need to get to make the conversion complete? boovuc 1,090 #8 Posted September 20, 2013 It wouldn't make any difference on your attachments. The belt guard would need to be from a single cylinder Kohler powered tractor and there are thousands available. The single Kohler will bolt directly to the frame. PTO and a belt guard are easily picked up with a request for wanted items on our classified section.
