ADVICE ON DODGE RV ENGINE QUESTION

Hi Guys- I have a problem- and I figured who else to seek advive from-than the experts on this site- I have been restoring a 1978 Georgie Boy Cruise Master class A RV. This is the first time the ole gal let me down-the fuel pump has gone out-its a Dodge 440 cu.in. with a 4 barrel carb. I got it jacked up to work on it-and my health took a nosedive. Too many "collisons" in the past- I guess -they are just now manifesting themselves.  My question- I have a 2 gallon tractor gas tank with filter and shutoff-could I mount this up above the engine cover and run the engine on gravity feed- just to keep it excercised- til I can get the pump put on? I'm VERY limited as to what I can do-but I think I could get this set up if it would work. DR. doesnt have any answers yet for my improvement- so I just want to try this tempory if would be possible-Thanks for any advice-Al

Can't say for sure, but when I was a kid, I was attempting to build a hot rod with a big four barrel on a 327 Chevy engine. While working on the engine in the shop, I attempted the gravity method. I could make the engine idle, but the way that thing drank, it was not enough to keep the carburetor bowl full enough to run at higher speeds. So I just got a cheapo electric pump, and hooked it up between the carburetor and the gravity tank.

You could probably run it at idle, but like Bob said higher speeds would require a pump. Don't want to starve it. It may backfire and melt that plastic Thermoquad carb.

I appreciate the input guys-That sounds like a plan with a cheapo pump near the tank. I hate to have to rig something-but sometimes youve got to do what youve got to do- Thanks-Al

I was thinking the same thing Al, but I did not really know enough to post something.  Is there a chance you night show up at Scott's M&G the year???  Would really like to meet you...GO ILLINI.

That was my plan til this happened- still have my Foster duties-but had away around that for that day-now health issues- with a bad fuel pump right in the middle of it- have graced my door step. If I can get cleared by the Dr I'll drive my little Hyundai if I have to - like to met you too- as well all the other guys..... Hail to the Chief!

Sounds like a full blown Tecky convention complete with a non running Injun err I mean Engine!
