Help IDing a 310-8 need a drive belt

Recommended Posts

forphase1

Hullo folks.  I've got a 310-8 that needs a drive belt, and according to partstree I need a 81 or 82 inch belt depending on what year my 310-8 is.  Problem is I'm not sure what year I've got.   I'm attaching a link with some pictures to see if anyone can help me id it.  As you can see the model number sticker is very hard to read.  It looks like the numbers on the sticker are 2110k?01...hard to tell.  There also appears to be 24307 at the end of the sticker.  Any ideas?

The motor in your 310-8 is a replacement engine as there were no recoil starters on any of the K or Magnum series engines on these tractors.

You may just want to go to your neighborhood NAPA dealer and get a few belts to try. Your numbers on the tractor are not relating to a 310 K or Magnum tractor. I'll look deeper to see if that number is a completely different tractor.

That number may actually start as K241 which could make it anything from a C-series 10 horse all the way to a 1986 310. In any event, since that just can't be the original motor, I would buy a few in that range and return what doesn't fit. I have done this many times unfortunately.

Your model number might be 2110K801.

My 310-8 is an '85 model and this is the number on mine.

Jack's small engines may have a listing for the belt.

Tim's right, 21-10K801 is a 1985 model 310-8.  But the decals on your hood don't look right, probably from an '86 or later model.  Do you have any overall photos of your tractor?

Also, are you talking about the drive belt from the engine to the transmission, or to an attachment?  Do you see any numbers on the belt itself?  If you can remove it, you could also take it to a Toro dealer if you have one close by.

7473 is the tractor drive belt (engine to trans.).  I don't know if that would work with the replacement engine, but it's a good place to start.

Man, some great advice here, and gotten very fast too.  Thanks SO much everyone.

I bought this tractor used 7-8 months ago and I don't know a ton about it.  This is the first 8-speed WH that I've owned...I also have a 1976 C-160 hyrdo and a 1979 C-141 hydro.

As to ya'll questions.  I don't have any overall pictures of the tractor, though I'll take some tomorrow and update this thread.  The previous owner said his dad had used this one for some parts, taking out the starter and most of the electrical equipment for a Wheel Horse he was keeping.  I picked it up along with a really solid mowing deck for $75.  :-)  Unfortunately I don't know much of the history of it....I might have been someones project at one time, and maybe that's why the decals aren't right.  *shrug*  As to the belt this is the drive belt, the one going to the transmission, not going to an attachment.  I've not taken the old one off yet, but it's in really bad shape.  I'll look for any numbers on it, but from the shape it's in I doubt there will be much to go on.  I know I can take belts to my local tractor supply and get them measured, but I don't know if this one is stretched and thus won't give an accurate measurement....nor do I know if the previous owner had the right size belt on it.

Just curious, but if this is a replacement engine why would that mean it wouldn't be the same size belt needed?

Toro 7473 {HB/5Lx81.95"} is correct for the 310-8.

Toro 108501 {HB/5Lx81.5"} is correct for some of the models using an Eaton 1100 hydro transmission.

The parts lists at Toro are shared by similar models but often fail to tell us what model uses what.

Thought I'd bump this one instead of starting a new thread.  I replaced the belt because the old one was worn and the clutch wouldn't disengage all the way...thought it might be related to the belt issue.  But the belt has now been replaced, but the clutch still doesn't seem to disengage.  It grind when I try putting it into gear and start moving even though I still have the clutch depressed.  This is my first go at one of the manual transmissions as my other two WHs are hydros.  I know this is a very vague question, but what else I am missing?  Can someone give me a run down of how the clutch is supposed to work, and what I should be looking for to diagnose this problem?  Thanks a ton!

Few pictures of the new belt around the drive pulley, clutch pulley with pedal not pressed down, and clutch pulley with pedal pressed down.  Thanks.

Just put the belt guard back on. The slack belt must be supported by the bottom lip of the guard so there is very little contact at the engine pulley.

In case you didn't know, I'll throw it out there anyway, the belt guard MUST be installed or the belt won't completely disengage.

Boy your quick, Garry!

I had the belt guard on there, and was still having the issue.  So I took the guard off to see if I missed anything and that's when I took the pictures.

You mentioned you've had this tractor for 7-8 months -- has the clutch ever worked properly for you?

And did you check the belt guard carefully?  I haven't looked at mine in a while, does that bottom lip look OK, or does anything else on it look unusual?
