papaglide 542 #1 Posted August 20, 2013 Well I just traded the last of my IHCC tractors for this beast. A 1975 1200 got me this, a 1986 417-A. She needs some minor adjustments: loose pto rod, correct governor spring, and a hydro that increases speed slightly going forward. She is strong going uphill. I did notice that when I engage the hydro, the engine speed seems to slow down. Is this normal or is it due to not having the correct governor linkage? There are some small rust spots on the metal but it all seems straight. Why I am thinking about it, is the seat supposed to have springs or the black spacers that are where the springs would be? The ag tires are loaded with anti freeze, not sure about that but I also got the correct turf tires with it on silver rims. The ags are only 8.5 wide... any issues with these being narrower than the 9.5 turfs? I will post more pics after the clean up and thorough go over.
Tankman 3,518 #2 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice Horsey! Did you need or pickup a deck with the Horse? Both my 400's have springs the seat mounts to. Doubt any issue with the AG's being narrower than stock turfs. The AG's loaded with antifreeze is understandable. You wouldn't need weights. Good luck with your project. By all means, more pic's. Cutlas3391 776 #3 Posted August 20, 2013 Looks good!! I have some parts for the rider if you need it. Empty that antifreeze on those tires. I do like those ags.
leeave96 487 #4 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice tractor. Those twin cylinder engines really fill up the engine space! I run ag's same with as you, prefer them over even the wider turf tires.
papaglide 542 #5 Posted August 20, 2013 Thanks guys. No deck needed. I have a new 48" that I am going to throw on later after I get home from work. Cutlass, would you happen to have the correct governor spring/rod? Springs make sense. The seat should be the almost the same set up as on my 416?
Ken B 3,164 #6 Posted August 20, 2013 You are going to love that tractor. Just this past week I was blastin thru foot high and THICK tall grass with my 417 -8 in third gear. (just to see if I could) I run a 48 inch deck, the 17 hp Kohler didn't struggle at all and it cut nice! All that with almost 1800 hrs on it! I have to admit, the blower screen catches as much if not more grass than an Onan. I'm going to work on that this week, needs to be cleared on every other pass. papaglide 542 #7 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Ken, I am not pleased to hear about the screen and grass issues. I though that was an Onan only thing! I am going to cut with it when I get home. I will write about the results for sure. Edited August 20, 2013 by papaglide
Wheel-N-It 2,969 #8 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Ken's right about the KT-17 picking up alot of grass. Sometimes I think mine sucks up grass from the next County! Really I have to keep a brush with me at all times to keep the flywheel screen clean. Edited August 21, 2013 by Wheel-N-It
