Jazzy

Grandson and I were traveling in the country side.

Wow! Someone had trashed (and I mean trashed) a Jazzy motorized wheel chair.

The chair was beyond repair, or not a project I needed to take on. What for?

We stopped and opened our tool box. Grandson and I removed the grey seat which was in excellent condition.

Guess it was an older model, no head rest. Fold down arm rests we took but didn't use, one had been replaced by the previous owner, not a match.

Seat is now on our '85 416-8. Comfy and folds down, easy to clean. The seat covers are some kind of flexible vinyl (?) over foam. Covers are pulled on after cleaning and snap into place. Nice and again, comfy.  :)

Dyed it black yet?

Not dyed.....yet. Can this vinyl be dyed? Product? Not my bag, dying material(s).

Still, is comfy. Haven't had any seat time yet but, feels nice! We shall see.

VHT makes a nice vinyl dye...always works well for me.

SEM will be the professional stuff though...and priced accordingly too.

I'm sure all the top name brands work equally as good though.

Bunch of 'em here for your reference...

Thanks AMC Rules! I'll be lookin' for dye this week. The gray didn't look too bad mowin' out in the sunshine but, black would be closer to the GI (government issue) appearance.

The seat was very comfy mowin' today. A neat feature is the forward aft gain. I'm a six footer and yet had room to move the seat forward for better access to the 416-8's clutch and break pedals.

Grandson and I are both pleased we went "garbage pickin'!"  If I ever see another, I'm stoppin'!

PS. Will post a pic after the dye job.  :)

Wheel-N-It

I thought I had found one too Tankman, but upon closer inspection it had a few splits. Not much different from the factory seat on my 416-8.

I thought I had found one too Tankman, but upon closer inspection it had a few splits. Not much different from the factory seat on my 416-8.

No rips in this seat at all but, had to use 1/2" spacers bolting the seat down or the vinyl would be crushed and, non-removable. I wanted to be able to remove the covers for cleaning and the additional height is not noticeable.

At an auto supply, $7.00, picked up a rattle can of Dupli-Color® Fabric and Vinyl paint, not gloss which was available. Picture is one coat of Dupli-Color® and a couple of hours later I slid the covers on 'n snapped 'em up.

One coat, dries fast although I haven't given the finish the final butt check** nice. Easiest paint I've ever used from a rattle can. I'm seeing excellent results.

** Proper attire for a butt check? White USMC skivvies or in the buff?  :eusa-think:

Test will be done in the absence of neighbors......or not.

Thanks AMC. The little project was as easy as it can get.

I had a new TSC seat on the '85 416-8 was fine.

I kind of like the comfort of this one but, needs the Final Butt Check. Are there step-by-step FBC (Final Butt Check) instructions published or just, "Ride 'em Cowboy?"  :ychain:

PS. I'm keepin' my eyes open for junqué Jazzy seats from here on!

Caution The seat assembly would be wasted installed on an MTD something or other.
