I have a question that might be difficult to answer.

I have a 1975 C-120 Special that I have started working on and I was wondering :eusa-think: ............. how many of these do you think Wheel Horse made? I believe they were only 1974 and 1975.

I am not a fan of these  Tecumseh engines since I have never had one yet that didn't pour gas out of the carb and the one HH-60 I did get running ( after I got a NEW carb ), ran terrible and smoked like a mosquito truck.

I did get this one to run after I put a new carb off the HH-60. Now I am waiting for the right carb. Any way since we all like pictures, some before and some in progress pictures.

Update: For your reference the serial # on my 1975 is 133663.

Tecumseh made good engines. It's a shame they couldn't build a decent carburetor to power them. That motor, unfortunately, brings the value of a great tractor down.

Highest 1975 serial number recorded so far                                                            189506

Next serial number recored following the highest for model 1-0375  so  far            134277

Tractor C-120 Special 8-speed 1975 model 1-0375 highest serial recorded so far 133675 in a single batch

Tractor C-120 Special 8-speed 1975 model 1-0375 lowest serial recorded so  far  133367 in a single batch

Low serial preceding the first model 1-0375 recorded so far                                    132068

Lowest 1975 serial number recorded so far                                                                34341

That is a possibility of 2209 units made but unlikely.

So far they span 308 units made.

I will have to disagree with this statement, finding a early round hood with it's original Tecumseh engine can bring receive a top dollar figure. Since the Lauson/ Tecumseh engine used a cast aluminum engine block they did have the tendency to wear out faster then the cast iron blocked Kohler or Clinton thus making them now harder to find. A 702 or 753 with it's Kohler can be a easy find BUT a 552 or 653 with an original Tecumseh ....... well now that is a find !

Don't forget about the 502 Bill with it's HC55C-3088P Tecky/Lauson.  This engine is hard to find and is sought after. :)

Wild Bill, With ALL due respect, I value your opinion and knowledge. Referring to the original post, I will take a 12hp Kohler over a 12hp Tecky any day. I've seen a $200.00 price difference between the C-120 and the C-120 Special in similar condition. Personally, I'll walk away from a C-120 with a Tecky just because of the carburetor problems, unless there is room in the deal to drop a Kohler in it.

The early roundhoods that you mention are smaller engines of a decade earlier, so the comparison is not equal.

As I said, Tecumseh made good engines, just couldn't build a carb to power it.

I own one Tecumseh, on a generator, and the ONLY problem I have had with it in 10 years has been with the carb. I wish it were powered by something else because when you need a generator, you need it to work properly.

Just my opinion.
