Wheel help

Rusty square

Hey guys I pulled my rear wheels off my lawn ranger to put new tires on and found the wheel bolts seem to pull threw the wheels. I need suggestions on how to fix this. I thinking of welding the old wheel bolt holes closed and drilling new holes.

One: drill out to accept tapping for 7/16-20 cap screws 1 1/2" or 1 /1/4" length for studs and get 6> 7/16-20 Chevy lug nuts. Lug nuts are bigger than head on standard 7/16-20 WH lug bolts and the LR, I believe is 3/8" (like 66 LR) unless it was previously upgraded or manufactured that way. That should take care of hole disparity unless bigger "wallow" on wheel. Then you'd need to consider 1/2-20. This is an although filthy example of the 5 lug with 7/16-20, 1 1/2' cap screws with washers on back. Don't necessarily need lock washer, I initially put them on, and decided needed more length so took em back off. That's be a lot less costly than more wheels, I'd guess.

Before get chastised: Yes, it's my dirty worker, shameful and I know axel is outset too far, prob addressed on another post!

A pulled 3/8" thread (.375") should leave room to retap to 7/16"-20 which requires a 25/64" hole (.3906")

Here is the wheel that I was talking about. I need to find a way to restore the back wheels. Dont really what to upgrade to bigger wheels because then I will have fitment issues when using the mower deck. The ball seat for the lug bolts are completely gone.post-9543-0-46200700-1376919057.jpg

Wow.  That's pretty bad.  Two options as I see it.

1. Have a round plate made and welded in.

2. Weld holes shut and re-drill holes.  You will have to build the area up grind it flat with a raised boss of about 1/8" and then hit it with a chamfer bit to re-establish the taper for the lug bolts.

Of coarse you could always find a set of replacement rims.  Someone here will have them place a wanted add in the classifieds.

Dwight, here are some poor photos of 66 LR wheels. From the ipl it appears the front is two pieces on 65 and 67, can't tell on 66, but these fronts are two pieces bolted together with grease zerk on flat part and valve stem comes out in middle of wheel. Rears appear to have been on backwards, po had them with black side out. These are 3 original WH tires SHOT/dryrot/cracked and 1 some other brandand smaller height. Will pm this post incase you don't catch it, Thanks
