stevasaurus 22,701 #51 Posted September 1, 2013 Only 2 Big Ten Teams lost this 1st weekend...Purdue lost to Cincinnati & Iowa lost to Northern Illinois... there are 3 guys that are 10 & 2...for this weeks bragging rights... bitten Brrly! JimD there are 4 guys that are 9 & 3... Hodge71 Papaglide RMCIII Stevasaurus there is 1 guy that is 7 & 5 Squonk there is one guy that is 6 & 6 BK-Scouter I have to tell you that the last game of the day...Northwestern vs California...if California would have won (and it was up in the air until the last 4 minutes) the bragging rights would have changed dramatically. What a difference one game makes. Everyone picked Nebraska, Michigan, and Ohio St. to win. The games that made a difference...Purdue lost to Cincinnati...Penn St. beat Syracuse...NIU beat Iowa...and Northwestern beat California.
stevasaurus 22,701 #52 Posted September 1, 2013 I do not have the bragging rights...but what a great day for the state of Illinois. The University of Illinois won...Northwestern won...and Northern Illinois University won...how cool is that??? :happy-jumpeveryone: OK...the season is over for me...this will not happen again in my life time. :orcs-cheers:
RMCIII 838 #53 Posted September 1, 2013 So it is just whoever you pick out right even though you may mention that a game could be close or even an upset?
squonk 41,017 #54 Posted September 1, 2013 I said I know nothing about college foot ball! you'll have to give me the list of all the games each week because I only know about 4 of the 12-18 teams in the big 10!. And we all thought Steve didn't like Tecky's!
JimD 3,345 #55 Posted September 1, 2013 So it is just whoever you pick out right even though you may mention that a game could be close or even an upset? Yep, we all just pick the teams we think will win each week and hope for the best. Comments about scores, closeness, and upsets are welcome. I don't comment too mch about future games because I'm not as studied as some of the guys. I just had a lucky week! I said I know nothing about college foot ball! you'll have to give me the list of all the games each week because I only know about 4 of the 12-18 teams in the big 10!. Mike, here's a link to the Big Ten schedule. It also give the results each week after the games. http://espn.go.com/college-football/conferences/schedule/_/id/5/big-ten-conference
RMCIII 838 #56 Posted September 1, 2013 Bummer. Just a little disappointed. Not even 1/2 points for picking the possible upsets? Go with the gut then I guess. Would have been the only 1 at 11-1.
squonk 41,017 #57 Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks Jim! At least I know where some teams are ranked now.
Brrly1 1,146 #58 Posted September 1, 2013 Well, it's all a process. Learning here just like on the field or at least for Iowa. Yesterday was the Q.B. first game ever as a sophmore. He went freshman, then a red-shirt freshman now in his third year he's finally taken a snap. I got to watch the second half and U have to say this is one drastically improved football team who still has a lot of work to do. Jake R. from Iowa played one heck of a game for the first time out. As always Go Hawkeyes!!!!
stevasaurus 22,701 #59 Posted September 1, 2013 RMCIII...your insight to the scores are more then welcome...I do not usually go that far, but I will discuss what and why I think some team will win. Actually, if Cal would have won the Northwestern game...you and I would have the bragging rights this week at 10 and 2. Just 4 minutes to go in the last game...WOW...but this is one game I wanted to lose. Mike...don't worry about picking the correct team...I have used a WeJe (sp) board before and have been successful.. JimD has always been lucky.

stevasaurus 22,701 #61 Posted September 1, 2013 I don't know what happened with BK-Scouter's picks. He was one of the guys to beat last year. I would not count him out...nobody really knows who is going to be good the 1st week...and the 2nd week for that matter. For instance...Cincinnati beat Purdue at Cincinnati yesterday...Illinois plays Cincinnati at Illinois next week...who are you going to pick??? Notre Dame goes to Michigan in the 2nd week...this game will maybe have bowl bid consequences. Syracuse comes to Northwestern. Indiana St. comes to Purdue. I am running out of quarters to flip. Does anyone know how good Southern Mississippi is??? They are coming to Nebraska.. Indiana is going to host Navy. Missouri St. is coming to Iowa...I know John is taking Iowa...John would take Iowa against the 1985 Chicago Bears. :) I'll post the games for WEEK 2 Monday. squonk 41,017 #62 Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Iowa could beat the 85 Bears today. Sweetness is gone, McMahon is selling ice cream out of an unmarked van and Ditka is close to committing Hari-Kari on one of those idiots next to him on the football pre- game show :violence-duel: Edited September 1, 2013 by squonk
stevasaurus 22,701 #63 Posted September 1, 2013 Mike, did you ever consider that you may have an advantage over the rest of us picking these games??? Being Big Ten guys...we tend to pick with our hearts...we want certain teams to win or lose...you have no clue... :) :ychain: You may do better then us through the season being CLUE LESS. Where is my Hockey Stick...I need to putt this golf ball.

papaglide 542 #66 Posted September 2, 2013 Mike, did you ever consider that you may have an advantage over the rest of us picking these games??? Being Big Ten guys...we tend to pick with our hearts...we want certain teams to win or lose...you have no clue... :) :ychain: You may do better then us through the season being CLUE LESS. Where is my Hockey Stick...I need to putt this golf ball. Hockey reference..? Happy Gilmore? Or Big Ten Hockey!!! Bring it on! Week one thoughts: Northwestern will always be tough as long as Pat Fitzgerald is there. Colter's concussion could be trouble. Nebraska- scary close win. Their defense has to improve in order to be considered a contender. Penn State... they MAY be for real...SU new coach, new QB =win for PSU. Nittany Lions could be interesting. The OSU... like I said earlier...it boils down to URBAN MEYER. Mich State... Mark Dantonio.....George Perles? They are unfortunately stuck in the middle just like when George lived there. Purdue..wow, are they really that BAD? Or is Tommy Tubberville that good? Hazell was a reach...maybe they are that Bad. Michigan. I dunno about them. I still don't believe in Brady Hoke. Time will tell. I have got a good feeling about the IRISH though! Illinois- didnt impress. If Juice Williams couldn't do it I dont think that Nate will either. Indiana- maybe a surprise but the Sycamores weren't a real test. They do have the offense though. Iowa- Kirk has been there a looooong time. Maybe to long. What do you think Hawkeye Fans? Wisconsin- I like the Badgers somewhat, really. But it was UMASS. The real test will be this week when they take on Tennesee. My bad! I mean Tennessee Tech?! Wow, I didnt think anyone scheduled like that anymore. Barry what are you thinking? Minnesota- 21 points from special teams. Is that good coaching or luck? Jerry Kill is a good coach, BUT to think that the Gophers will return to the "glory days" of Coach Holtz may be a bit premature. What are your thoughts?

squonk 41,017 #68 Posted September 2, 2013 I got my games all picked. But I won' t disclose them now so I can keep you all in suspense!
stevasaurus 22,701 #69 Posted September 2, 2013 Me too Mike, but I have adjusted my picks once already. I'll post mine tomorrow. There are a few games this weekend that can go either way.. I hate to tell you this, and don't put a lot of stock in it, but the Big Ten is not always as good as it thinks it is (as a conference). When you have 6 to 8 teams going to bowls and only a couple of the teams win...you are not as good as you think you are. There are a lot of good teams out there in the country, and they all want to beat a Big Ten team. I would think that the Notre Dame vs Michigan game this weekend is going to end up as big of a game as the Michigan vs Ohio St. game this year. All Big Ten teams are playing at home this weekend...except for Minnesota. This week will start to separate the Deeres and Cubs from the Horses.
bitten 134 #70 Posted September 2, 2013 GO BUCKEYES Penn State and Northwestern where good surprises this week. I knew that Northwestern is a good team but though Calli was a better one. From what I seen Penn State looked better then I would have imagined and that is cool with what the team has gone thru the past couple of years. I would like to pick the B1G across the board this week but not to sure about a couple of the games so I will give it some thought before I make my picks.
Brrly1 1,146 #71 Posted September 3, 2013 Bitten ol' buddy, I have done thought about it. But first I have something for Stevasaurus. I would have Definitely taken the Hawkeyes against the 85' refrigerators. Lol. Hayden Fry was the coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes at that time, and they were taking No Prisoners. Remember back when Iowa was #2 and I believe Michigan was #1 well is wasn't that after the game !2-10 Iowa brings home one Sweet victory!!!! Bitten now it's back to you. I also looked the games over last night with the thought of taking the Big Ten all the way thru but there are a couple of games that make me wonder for Instance Cincinnati at Illinois, Cincy won over Purdue but they won at home. This week there away at Illinois. Ok, heres my picks drum roll please, Big Ten will run the card. Sorry Notre Dame fans but I believe Michigan is just way too strong (unfortunately) As always, Go Hawkeyes!!!!!!
