RMCIII 838 #29 Posted August 24, 2013 Illinois over SIU - 28 to 17 Cincinnati over Purdue - 20 to 14 Wisconsin over UMass - 35 to 28 Ohio State over Buffalo - 45 to 21 Syracuse over Penn State - 21 to 20 Iowa over NIU - 28 to 20 - I only choose Iowa here because it's a home game, this actually could be an upset, I hope so, I hate Iowa. If an upset then it will be close 21 to 20 NIU. Michigan over C-Michigan 42 to 14 Nebraska over Wyoming 38 to 17 Cal over Northwester - 20 to 17- this is the other close game of the week. Northwestern is really better than they are ranked, but they are also playing a team that is much better on the field than on paper. So, if an upset Northwestern 21 Cal
Brrly1 1,146 #30 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Ok then, hold the applause I am now going to make my picks for week #1 but first a few quick notes. Jim D. and Stevasaurus, I can see that you two are headed straight for the cellar, thats got to be rough seeing me sitting on top again this year! Don't forget Iowa is the #1party school. RMCIII did you have a rough time with one of those ol' farm girls, wow coming out and just Hating a team, you must of had a rough way to go. I know about them farm girls. Don't need to explain, I love the State of Iowa born and raised, I don't think I need to say anymore. On with the picks We are looking at Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan State, I should pick S.I. just to be awnry but I think I know better Illinois to win. Ohio State looks to be in the driver seat but one never knows especially in the Big Ten. We are going with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, Northwestern And you'll never guess the next one Iowa Hawkeyes to win!!!!! Who would ever thought that? Well, I forgot one Purdue to win! Edited August 29, 2013 by Brrly1
RMCIII 838 #31 Posted August 26, 2013 Well, I was always told, if you can not find 1 good thing to say about something, then it was ok to "hate" it. Now that I know you were born in Iowa and this thread was started by you, I can't "hate" it no more. But I still really, really, dislike Iowa. There are only a few other teams that I dislike as much, any team from a swamp, or a team that names themselves after a destructive force of nature. I think that about sums it up.
JimD 3,345 #32 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) :ROTF: RMCIII knows. This stuff is taught at an early age in the Big Ten. Edited August 26, 2013 by JimD
RMCIII 838 #33 Posted August 26, 2013 You got Jim, my boy. As much as I have been disappointed with the BIG "O"s lack of 3 NCAA Titles, in the last 6 years to add to the 2001 victory, I still bleed Scarlet & Grey. At time they have been well over-rated and they definitely should not have played in the Title game, embarrassing, but then if you are true to your sport and team, you take the good with the bad. You also acknowledge when they have been a disappointment. Maybe this year, we will see a top bowl game. Not looking to see an NCAA Title, asking way to much of the team. But they should get a solid Bowl selection. My only concern is the BIG "M" end of year. They have really gotten their program back on track. Should be a good season. Still nothing like a little "Hawkatizer" for a pre-game treat....... LOL>>>>>

squonk 41,017 #36 Posted August 27, 2013 Nothing wrong with the state of Iowa. My vision is greatly enhanced whilst within it's borders. Last time I was there I could see for miles and miles and miles! Plus Don Nelson of Boston Celtics shot putting free throw fame went to school there. There I go back to basketball

papaglide 542 #38 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Well here we are, another season of Big Ten,10 plus 2 or whatever it is, football. To me, the champ is down to 3 teams. Michigan OSU Nebraska For all of the maize and blue fans: Brady Hoke=Brady Joke. He isnt the real deal. Look at it this way, no national championships since the great Bo Schembe(I don't think that he won one.) make that that Lloyd Carr days. Rich Rod may have left your program in a mess but he had plenty of internal help that assisted him. Hoke just seems "cleaner" than the double R and that feels good. How good was SD State.... really? Buckeyes. Meyer, Urban. Lookup the Gators' history and that is what you have in Columbus. You lucky dogs! He is Barry Switzer incarnate...minus the smoking and shadiness. He just wins! This guy will own this conference until he burns out again. He is head and shoulders above Hoke and the rest......but wait... Big Red South lurks in the shadows. Are they still Big Red South? Probably not anymore. Nevermind, the Huskers have almost returned to the dominance of the Osborne dynasty. Pellini is entering his fifth year and had much rebuilding to do after the Pederson/Callahan fiasco. The program is solid and they will be a force to reckoned with. Cut to the chase..... Buckeyes are the champs.... Sorry Illini fans and others. Picks: Indiana, Minny, State, purdue, Illinois, OSU, Wiscuzin, Mich, Syracuse, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern. Brrly1 1,146 #43 Posted August 29, 2013 RMCIII, you surely have it in for the State of Iowa. First off you don't like the Hawkeyes (which is like HUH?) second off they also have a team in the state which is called the Iowa State Cyclones so I gather you don't like that either. About the only thing I can offer is that my initials are JACIII. May you have a good day. Steveasaurus, niu is going down the tubes!!!!! They also play the Toledo Rockets on the 20th of November!!!!
stevasaurus 22,701 #44 Posted August 29, 2013 Gentlemen, it has come to my attention that some guys are not participating in this pool because of some of the banter that has already occurred. The idea of this thread is to have some fun and promote interest in college football. Please read the first post in this thread, if you have not, and let's keep the banter from getting personal. It's OK if you do not like a team, but remember that some one is out there that loves them. It is probably better to tout your favorite team, rather then cut another team down. The Big Ten Conference has some of the most intense rivalries in college football, so it can be pretty easy to cross the line. Please read what you are about to post, and consider the feelings of others about what you say. THANK YOU
stevasaurus 22,701 #45 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) Burrly1...you know that Iowa was lucky to beat NIU last year at Soldier Field. They went on to win the MAC Conference title for the 2nd year in a row and they went to the Orange Bowl...their first BCS Bowl and made a good showing. I would take Iowa, being they are the home team, but I just can't go against a team that is 40 minutes from my house. I think this is going to be a great game Saturday. NIU wants to be a team that starts winning their Big Ten games...not coming close to winning them. Watch out for the Huskies...they really want this game. I would have taken Northwestern over Cal if the game were played here. There is just something about the Pac Ten teams that the best team does not always win. It is one pick that I hope I lose this week. Go WILDCATS. How come no one is talking about Wisconsin this year??? They have only won the Big Ten Championship 3 years in a row. I think they will play Nebraska for the title this year. Good Luck Guys...Here We Go. :happy-wavemulticolor: Edited August 29, 2013 by stevasaurus

squonk 41,017 #48 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) Everyone says I'm weird and they are right! I really don't follow college football. When I was young I watched the Notre Dame replays on Sunday morning with Lindsay Nelsen but that was it. I'd watch Bud Wilkinson doing the college football report on Sat afternoon but only because The American Sportsman was on next. My son watches no college football at all but knows everything about every college player eligible for the NFL draft. Been that way since he was 5. My record will be interesting as I'll pick on intuition alone. Now the NFL is a different matter. stevasaurus 22,701 #50 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) What a great start to the 2013 Big Ten football season...so far. Only Purdue has lost...not over yet. Congratulations to the Illini...already a great weekend. :happy-jumpeveryone: OK...Make that Purdue and Iowa... Sorry John...Iowa has improved, but NIU deserved that Orange Bowl BCS bid last year...they wanted to prove that Mate. This is good for the MAC...not preseason pushovers anymore. I'll tell you that Western Michigan gave Michigan St. all it could handle on Friday. Edited August 31, 2013 by stevasaurus
