TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted August 22, 2008 There are basically two different oil pan styles for K series Kohler big-block single cylinder engines. The eared blocks will take the large pan, (long rectangle shape - bolts down through from the top) and the earless blocks must use the small pan. (more square - bolt up through from the bottom) You cannot put a large pan on an earless block (without making an elaborate adapter plate) but in some instances, a small pan can be installed on an eared block. (JD used this configuration with some of their models - the ears on the block are where the engine mounting brackets were fastened) 10 thru 16hp (and the K-361 18hp OHV single) are dimensionally the same at the pan rail, so the majority of the pans will interchange.
