leeave96 487 #1 Posted August 1, 2013 In the early days, Wheelhorse used a Sunstrand hydro correct? At some point they started using the Eaton 700 in some otherwise pretty nice tractors, like a 518H. Later, they used the Eaton 1100 and at the end, even the 312-H had the Eaton 1100. Question is - did Wheelhorse attempt to replace the Sunstrand hydro with the Eaton 700 or did they offer both the 700 and 1100 at the same time? I'm just wondering what made Wheelhorse go with the 700 vs just going 100% with the 1100. Also, I think the Sunstrand hydro pump was the same used on Cub Cadets and Simplicities? I think Cub Cadet continued to use these up to 1997. Wonder why Wheelhorse swerved away from the Sunstrand in the first place? Thanks! Bill
dennist 139 #2 Posted August 1, 2013 I believe the 700 and 1100 both at the same time would be a price point situation. You want manual lift this is the price, you want hydro lift...step up and pay more.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,412 #3 Posted August 1, 2013 Question is - did Wheelhorse attempt to replace the Sunstrand hydro with the Eaton 700 or did they offer both the 700 and 1100 at the same time? The answer is no to both. They switched from Sundstrand to an Eaton 1100 in 1980. Actually you can find 1980 BlackHoods (C-165 for ex..) with both tranny's. The early 1980 ones with the Sundstrand and the later 1980 units with the Eaton 1100. All 1981 and up Blackhoods came with eaton 1100's. I think the first Eaton 700 offered in a WH garden tractor was the 312-A and was probably used to try and bring the cost of the tractor down. Mike............
