userj8670 68 #1 Posted July 29, 2013 Seem to have really taken a liking to this model but was wondering if there is anything to watch out for? Also google didn't yield many pictures - please post up some of yours!
Tankman 3,518 #2 Posted July 29, 2013 My Raider '68 12hp Kohler is a great Stallion! I keep up on maintenance, lube, oil, cleaning. Somewhat ridiculously, retired, having fun. Decals are new from http://www.redoyourhorse.com (quality and price are great). There are a number of pic's in my gallery, take a peek-a-boo.
userj8670 68 #3 Posted July 29, 2013 Tankman - Thanks for the reply and you have a nice looking horse there! However that's a 12 and I was looking for info on the 14's.
Hodge71 664 #4 Posted July 29, 2013 The 12 and 14 are exactly the same machine. The only difference is that one has a K-301 (12hp) and the other is a K-321(14hp).
userj8670 68 #5 Posted July 30, 2013 I used to forum search and it didnt give me many results which is why I posted here. Does it have a magnetic pto that I saw? One is for sale locally and id like to be educated before considering a purchase

Tankman 3,518 #7 Posted July 30, 2013 I used to forum search and it didnt give me many results which is why I posted here. Does it have a magnetic pto that I saw? One is for sale locally and id like to be educated before considering a purchase My Raider 12 has a manual PTO. Nice enough, gets the job done. The '73 I have has the electric PTO. Gets the job done. This is the only Horse I've owned with an electric PTO. I don't really care one way or the other as long as the Horse'll work. Regardless of engine HP, the Raiders are the same; 12, 14, 10, doesn't matter. Kohler's IMHO are the cream of the crop.
userj8670 68 #8 Posted July 30, 2013 Tank - I have a12 hp Kohler in my cub cadet that our family has owned since 71 and you just cant kill 'em. Back to the 14 - what is a good price for one in fair condition (meaning will need cleaned up and paint but runs and drives). Also what should I check out when buying a wheel horse? Anything notorious for going bad? p.s. The one guy on here Rick had a NOS Raider 14 I saw a few years back and it appeared it had magnetic clutch?
Tankman 3,518 #9 Posted July 30, 2013 I'm guessing $500 for a decently cared for Raider 14. The 12's and 14's (and Kohler) horizontal shaft engines, excellent service and easy to maintain. What to look for? Running? Deck workin'? Overall appearance? The Raider is a Stallion! You (or anyone) would enjoy this model WH.

What a difference a few weeks & a little elbow grease makes . Excellent Horse you have there! WHA (Wheel Horse Addiction) is goin' to bite for sure. When I picked up my '68 Raider 12 was needing paint but, the Stallion lived indoors when not in use. I did paint, renewed hardware, new bolts, deck cleanup, trans oil change, engine stuff, all the usual. Went with a new decal set, excellent work from http://www.redoyourhorse.com (Horse deserved 'em). Got to love that worker of a Horse. I can imagine, nothing stopping the 14 hp Kohler. Thanks for posting the pic's, a pleasure to look at.
userj8670 68 #14 Posted July 31, 2013 Gene - birthday is going well so far thanks! Did you go and repaint the whole darned thing now? It looks like it or maybe you finally gave in and waxed the ole girl. Either way she is looking sharp! I hate that you bought that tractor cuz now I just gotta have one! But yes what a difference from where she was to where she is now and I think she is in good hands with a great new home!

Cheetah 14 #16 Posted July 31, 2013 I have one. Found it in CT with a broken rod back in 2009. It now has a 14hp from an Ariens (still a Kohler!!) and it's been a fun tractor. Here's my oldest grandson running it last weekend. He got 3rd
