Icepuck72 41 #1 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) Hey guys and gals....I'm brand new to the forum. Searched some topics but could not find this particular model. It's a Toro, Wheel Horse 312. Here's the link.... Craigslist link deleted by Sparky Thoughts on this? I'm scheduled to look tomorrow at it. Edited July 28, 2013 by Sparky
AMC RULES 37,127 #2 Posted July 28, 2013 Just type 312 into the forum search window...like this. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #3 Posted July 28, 2013 Sorry but we dont allow Craiglist or E-bay links on here unless its your own item for sale...I had to delete it. But that 312 is a nice machine and it has the better hydro set-up (Eaton 1100, not the Eaton 700). The Magnum motor and black decal makes me think its a 90"s model and it should have an hour meter. Might want to find out the hours before you make the drive. Mike.........
953 nut 55,044 #4 Posted July 28, 2013 You are looking at a 312 A which is a twelve horse power automatic transmision model. They started making them in 1985 and continued that model for about twenty years; they were that good! Since it is a "Toro/Wheel Horse that would make it a later model. They are a tough dependable machine. Good luck on your shopping trip.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,031 #5 Posted July 29, 2013 The 312-A's use the 700 Eaton and a manual attachment lift. The 312-H's use the 1100 Eaton with hydraulic lift. Garry
Icepuck72 41 #6 Posted July 29, 2013 OK, apologize on the CL link.... This seller is about 5 miles from me....checking it out tomorrow. On another note.....I will be using this as a fall clean up piece...So I will be purchasing a Trak Vac or some other type of vac. Any issues with using one of them with this model? Thanks.... shallowwatersailor 3,213 #7 Posted July 29, 2013 You might expect the steering to be loose. It appears that the steering may have skipped a tooth or two with the wheels pointed straight and the steering wheel turned. But it is minor issue if that is all that is wrong. With regards to a vac unit, the standard hitch type are easier to handle on Wheel Horses. I have a Cyclone Rake equipped with caster wheels and a fixed hitch which I love for a number of reasons, but are difficult to adapt to Wheel Horses. Check out other posts in the forum for more information.
JimmyJam 542 #8 Posted July 29, 2013 Nice looking machine. Would be well worth it, no matter the usage!

Icepuck72 41 #11 Posted August 3, 2013 Ok Guys....just an update. I bought this baby. She's not pristine....but she started right up on a cold engine, cut beautifully. Some paint chipping and peeling, a dent in the front hood right above the headlight, etc...900 hours. $500. I though it was a good deal. It is a local one owner, bought it from a dealer where I live....has owned it ever since. has new blades, new belts, and all fluids changed. Has papers. Icepuck72 41 #14 Posted August 3, 2013 I think I did OK....the owner and his family are moving...I think he just wants everything gone...he's an older gentleman and pays someone to cut his lawn....wanted 850 for it, we settled for 500.
truckin88 104 #15 Posted August 3, 2013 it is definitely an Eaton 1100, because of the hydro lift. but I have never seen a black stripe 312 with the old school hydro long motion control lever with the older style hydro lift toggle lever. Every black stripe I have seen has the steering column controls. The 312-A would have that style motion lever control but a manual lift due to the eaton 700. This is a new one for me...cool

Vinylguy 4,674 #17 Posted August 3, 2013 A very good deal. I would like that motion control above the new ones. That is a great find.
