Been trying to reduce the fleet but..... 520 Score

Recommended Posts

As usual while surfing cl came across an ad for 520 with 60 inch deck but motor out and apart.... Called the guy and ended up being a young guy who was selling his grandfather's (original owner) 520. it has been in his dad's barn for at least 4 years. I made an offer and he agreed so off I went. IMO I paid what the deck is worth. I have a low hour onan out of another 52o that is ready to drop in. Got it home and gave it a real good bath. Only has 309 hours on the clock. Looking at the engine it turns freely and the valves look good to me. I think the issue was electrical. Got her home and pressure washed it and the deck and here she is. My friend who is my neighbor has been looking for a nice 520 with the 60 inch deck so I think this will be heading next door since I already have two.

Very nice! 60" decks are a bit hard to locate too.

Too bad one of the tail lamps is broken. :ychain:

PS. Did you have Vallerie Transportation move it for ya? Oh, forgot, left Norwalk.

Good find! I don't want any more Wheel Horses (or any other LAGT) right now either, but every day I find myself in front of the computer looking for the next one..............................

I seem to have that problem myself. I have been able to resist it so far but if a 520 shows up at a decent price I will probably fall off the wagon again. I'll just give you an example of why I can't stay off CL. A month or so ago I went to bed without checking CL and when I got up the next morning I found a 520 listed about 20 miles from me for $100. It had been put on the night before. Of course he didn't answer his phone or answer emails. :angry-tappingfoot: I sent him an email offering $500 for it. When I did get hold of him, you guessed it, sold for $100.:no:  It was an estate deal and the guy knew nothing about it. :angry-cussingblack::crying-yellow:

I don't think Steve will ever be able to lay off A good deal. He is the best salesman/wheeler and dealer that I know of. I think it's in his blood! That was an amazing deal he got there and it looks to be in great condition.

After an all day marathon yesterday to get my garage cleaned up and some other stuff around the house I took a better look at the motor that came with this tractor. Looks like the rear valve seat let lose (shocker) lol. I mounted up the spare onan I had and gave it a little compounding. It cleaned up pretty good. I need to mess with the wiring harness a bit and get it going!

Steve don't show it off too much, I can remember when it was gold many yrs. ago... Its wicked nice. We saw a black one at the Monroe car show this past Friday night. I told Cole you have one just like it, but yours is nicer. My wife had to drag me to the car show. I no longer like going because I hate to just look. I miss the days of rollin into a car show with my 69 SS Chevelle.....

I ran the numbers and this is a 1992 520. I installed an onan off a 1995 520. I used the wiring from the 1992. What I am missing is the starter relay. Anyone have any pics of where that mounts? I have seen a few of them have more than one relay? One on the starter motor and another one mounted on the frame rail. Any help on a 1992 would be great. Thanks-

Today Fireman and I were able to get this bad boy going. It was wired correctly but as I figured there was no power going through the light blue wire to the starter. We traced it back to a bad relay. I had one in stock and she fired and ran nice. The motor came out of a 1995 520 with about 350 hours and the tractor has a working hour meter and is now at about 309. I really liked riding this one. She cuts perfect and the gear reduction is a bonus. The seat and armrests are all good too. I think Jeff may post a video he took here soon. Here are some updated pics after I mowed for a long time.

Really nice tractor and those 60" decks mow as nice as any I've ever owned. I've had two of them with 60's. I see that one is the earlier one with the skids. That's what I had. They will dig into the ground though if you get in some really uneven ground.
