pmackellow 12 #7 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) Hello Simon, good to see you on here, many thanks for the multitude of exhibits you brought to Ardingly (not just Horses), we had a count up on Sunday morning and counting exhibits as entered (for instance all my Tarpen machinery was one display), we had no less than 153 entries, surely the biggest turnout of Horticultural machinery in one place in the UK... Dual Drive Horse 6 #12 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) The original Doe Dual drive or "triple d" was built from 1958 to 1964, and replaced by the Doe 130 in 1965 for ploughing the heavy soils on East Anglia. Built by Ernest doe and Sons of Ulting in Essex, the Triple d was built from two Fordson Majors and the 130 from two Ford 5000s. The tractors ceased production in 1965 due to more compact four wheel drive machines coming onto the market, plus the problems with new legislation requiring rollover protection. Believe it or not they also had a tighter turning circle than a Fordson Major! A very rough one came up for auction and we watched it sell for £68,000 plus taxes, way over anything I could afford. Then we looked to the corner of the workshop where a Raider was being serviced for a customer and a plan began to hatch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AmMeixh_LQ Edited August 11, 2013 by Dual Drive Horse
