Project C-81 Finally Home

Recommended Posts

MidmoHorse

Just picked up the new tractor along with some misc parts the seller had lying in a yard.

Rough shape but I am optimistic it can be turned into a nice outfit.

Just various shots of the Kohler that most of you are well aware of.

Being a NOOB in the true sense of the word, I am taking it all in as best I can.

The seller gave me this deck. Unsure if it is the one for it. Center pulley is bent and some roller hinges need redone.

Some parts he gave me out of the yard. They were next to another Wheelhorse but different model. Unsure of which one as it was only the rear end and I am not an expert.

If I cannot use them for mine, I'll make sure to get them to someone who can.

Fun to finally have it here :)

The fan pulley laying in the grill in the second pic is for a hydrostat tractor. I would hang on to the parts , you will have more than one before long !!

I live near Boonville,MO.  Welcome !!!!!

Nice horse! Are you planning to restore it?

Thanks.

Well, I plan to restore it as much as I can. I want a working tractor first, then will try my hand at body work :)

I can see this can be addicting. Maybe I do need a new shed outside after all?

Nice find. That deck is a 42" or 48"er, a bit large for an 8hp tractor in my opinion but some guys swear by that combo.

Is it odd that the exhaust is hanging right by the air intake? Wouldn't it be breathing its own fumes? Or is this normal for this motor?

Welcome to RS, Out of all my tractors my C-81 is my go to tractor. They are one of the Bread and Butter of the Wheel Horse line. Very dependable and no non-sense tractor. You want a work tractor you got it. Not the most powerful but will do just about any job you give it and come back for it's next assignment.

Wheel Horse used the 30461d spec number 1972-1974.

Kohler built serial number 5318333 in 1973.

There should be an ID plate under the dash housing and up high. Let us know what's on it if you find it. Will be a 1978 or 1979 model tractor.

Congrats. Now start making room for the next one.

also being a noob, I understand that bug already too... this is when it pays off to be broke and have limited space - now I'm looking for big stuff to pawn off for money and space!

Nice tractor!
