I have that Flat Idler Pulley and it is from a 520H so it should be the exact fit. It is 4.5" diameter and about 7/8" wide. I am attempting to include pics with this reply. If you don't see them, send me an OFF-SITE email. My email is: daveoman@windstream.net

ps... the bearing in this has no slop or wobble at all. I can put it in your USA mailbox for $37...Paypal

Raising up an old topic. I have a 520-H  Model No 73501 and suffering the same problem as referenced in this thread, just 7 years later - bearing is totally gone from inside the pulley! The link in the next to last post is no longer active and like Putzs247 I cannot locate the idler pulley part number on the Toro belt and pulley parts page of the parts catalog and for the life of me can't find it elsewhere in the parts catalog. Any assistance appreciated in order to keep this old lady running. Thanks

Wow, that was fast and that be it! Thanks. I used the part number you provided to find it under the Clutch, Brake and Speed Control section of the parts catalog. Makes sense, but as alluded to in Red Bovine post above, not particularly intuitive.

amazed that you did not have an issue before this state of operation, i regularly check over any movement points for issues and get after it. notice that the lift lever cross shaft , just to the right of your failed bearing , has zero lubrication on it , ? . if you were to  lubricate that point and the related lift rod linkage , the rust and crud would drain out of it ,and it would work much easier. glad you recovered that pulley , any other issues ?  pete

Peter

thanks for the tip.  And I was similarly amazed that nothing (apparently) was shredded to pieces with the condition the pulley was in. Once I get the new idler pulley I will roll up my sleeves and get at the lift lever and idler arm as part of the remove & reinstall.

A follow up question: the parts catalog refers to the bolt that holds the idler pulley in place as part #106193 - bolt - Special 3/8 - 16x1 - 1/2. Is this a regular right hand threaded bolt? Or is it a left hand thread?   What does the Special refer to? I’m in there now trying to unscrew the bolt and obviously it’s not coming off easily. Before I try an impact wrench on it I just want to be sure I am trying to unscrew it in the correct direction. Thanks to all in advance for any insight or directions.

Special bolt is right hand thread but a very thin head to clear things

Hey all, back again with my second final question🤓 There was more damage to various parts than I thought. Once I removed the Idler pulley arm I found the tensioner spring to have been ground down by the unbolted pulley plus other ground down bits on the idler arm. I ordered a new used idler arm but it is stalled in customs. Since growing grass waits for no man I was thinking of using the existing worn arm but I need confirmation about the Design of the Tab on the arm which holds the spring. I have attached a photo which shows the tab as being bent up from the arm. I am thinking this is the design as it would position the spring away from the tractor body and the bend is smooth, but since there were  some serious forces at play I need to know if this tab was pushed out of alignment and I need to bend it back  to flush.  If anyone can let me know it would be most appreciated.

That tab looks ok,  with it assembled the spring body should not rub . :wh::wh:

Tab should be flat and not bent up at all.

Does not look like a hard fix at all.

Flat tab it was. The replacement arm I ordered from A-Z Tractors

arrived with a flat tab. Having also just received a new spring and bushing from PartsTree I was finally able to put everything back together.  Loading the sprung pulley on to the belt without removing the belt was an exercise in care and caution. For the future I also repaired my existing bent idler arm by flattening the tab -  although  hopefully I don’t have to do this again. Thanks to all who replied to my posts and queries. Couldn’t have done this without the help of this forum.
