I need some help.

 

I got a call from a man that wants to bring me his tractor with a tranny problem. I would like to find some manuals on that model and on its tranny. But I also would apreciate some opinions on what may be the problem.

 

Heres what I know so far : the snapring on the  wheel shaft next to the tranny fell off!! the ol man had it replaced and after 10 minutes operating the wheels stopped turning. After a few minutes cooldown it works again but stops after 10 minutes drive. The ol man called back the garage who fixed it and they say that it sounds like theres an air bubble in the tranny. The man then decided to call me to see if I can pinpoint the problem for him.

 

Personally I dont really know much about them newer machines but I woul like to give it a try and fix it for this old man. I dont really see how an air bubble would le the tranny freespin but again I might learn something.

 

Anyone care to help finding manuals for tractor and tranny? Anyone wanna throw some ideas on why this happened?

Found the tranny number its a hydrogear 310 0510. I look at the manual and cant figure out how replacing the snapring on the axle shaft can make the tranny work on and off. The oil level seems to be good and the oil weight is fine too. Unless the garage that serviced the tranny has opened it up and messed with something in there?

I don't see how either... what else did they do when it was in the shop?  Change tranny fluid maybe?  Reputable shop?  did they use the right fluid if they changed it?

 

There's a 'bypass actuator'... the 'push valve' ... is that maybe stuck open a bit?  maybe the shop f'd that up when they were working on it?

 

First thing I think would be to try the 'purging procedure' on page 11:

Air creates inefficiency because its compression and expansion rate is higher than that of the oil approved for use in hydrostatic drive systems.

The resulting symptoms in hydrostatic systems may be:

1. Noisy operation.

2. Lack of power or drive after short term operation.

3. High operation temperature and excessive expansion of oil.

Yes I have read the same thing today. Me and you think alike. I also think that verifying the bypass is first and if no progress then its on to system air flush. As for the oil the owner tells me the shop did use 20-50 oil but level should be checked before air flush. I dont think a complete system flush is on the cards just yet.

As for the reputation of the shop.....I guess the owner dont want to bring it back there since they charged him an arm and a leg  to replace a snapring and now the tranny doesnt work. What I find odd is that the said shop told the owner to open the filler cap and let it sit for a day opened so the air bubbles get out! WTF? Its not a cola bottle, the air dont magically fizz out when you open the cap, its trapped and we need to make it work its way out. To think these guys charge 30 to 40 bucks an hour.
