MalMac 1,331 #26 Posted July 6, 2013 There's something you don't see much of anymore, square headed nuts. Throw back to old Ag equipment. Might want to get a longer bolt in the one to get a full bite on the threads though. Looks like you olny got half of the nut on there.

This was only a temp set up...just to make sure the steering worked well. I am going to make a permanent plate out of steel and use SS bolts. I have tons of old hardware I use know and then. I like some of the old stuff, but don't care for the slotted screws..I'll take a Phillips anyday
MalMac 1,331 #28 Posted July 6, 2013 Glad that setup works. Got me to thinking on mine. Even though I have not had any problems with mine that I did not create myself. I have a extra axel from a 520 that I might just swap out. Those front ends take a lot of abuse. Even though you got a heavy duty front end there. It's scary to think it's still all that weight is just riding on the small piovot pin. Glas you got things worked out.
dennist 139 #29 Posted July 6, 2013 Nice easy fix to get you back up and running.
Jeff-C175 7,199 #30 Posted July 6, 2013 When you make the permanent plate, remember that the closer you can get the new holes (in the vertical direction) to the old ones, the easier it will be to steer. I know 1/2" don't seem like much but it can make a difference.
520h driver 0 #31 Posted July 9, 2013 I want a 520hc front swept front axel kit on My Toro wh 520h too!!! :9 NICE work!! Had a chance to buy one on Ebay but i lost it :p
520h driver 0 #33 Posted July 18, 2013 You could put a JD 210 -212 -214- 216 axle in it. The JD's have 1" factory axles. The axle pin is the same. It is rear swept on the JD but you can turn it around and make it forward swept. Only this I did on mine is weld on tabs for the tie rods to match the same distance on the W. H. Probably way cheaper and easy-er than the proud WH. parts owners. I have a post on here of putting one in my C160. Awesome axle that I won't switch back. Worked great on my Ark 550 loader. Does the JD front axle fits My 520h too? Would be NICE, can't find Any forward swept axels! :p

giddyap 1,569 #35 Posted December 7, 2021 Weld a steel triangle on the inside bend.
ronhatch 406 #36 Posted December 7, 2021 (edited) I don't get it. Just drill out the original triangle steering plate to accept the larger ball joints and adjust the new tie rods for a little toe in. Job done. And don't overload the bucket. Edited December 7, 2021 by ronhatch
Jeff-C175 7,199 #37 Posted December 7, 2021 I know some added info could be useful to someone searching in the future, but keep in mind that this post is almost ten years old, and the OP has not been back since 2017.

I will jump in and agree- they are decent axles. You'll need a spacer, as the pivot pin on a JD is shorter. You may also need to modify the spindle steering tabs and make a set of turnbuckles, or at least I did on mine. The axle is solid, but sits quite a bit lower than WH- about 3/4 if memory serves. And there are alot of them out there.
