Replaced bearings in a 312-8, now no movement.

I dont know where I went wrong? I had to replace the bearings in a 312-8, so I did, then put it back together.  The shifter feels like it it working, and the drive belt is spinning the pulley, but there is no movement.  I didnt put something back right, any ideas?

I just jacked the rear up, and put it in gear, and wheels wheels spin freely.  The shifter feels right but it is not engaging.

I just rebuilt mine , here are two videos put together by Steveasaurus (< sorry if I spelled that wrong )  will walk you through all of it , it may jar your memory of what if anything you did or didn't do .....excellent tutorial .

First thing I'd check is the shifter , make sure it's suspended properly from the set screw and between the forks .

If I had to guess as to what would cause what you have...there is a pinion gear on top of the fork gear shaft...if you put this under the "C" clip (instead of on top) it will not engage the reduction gear on top of the cluster gear shaft.

The little gear in the front, top, right is the pinion...you can see in the picture that it engages the larger reduction gear.  Hope that helps. :)  Just thought of another possibility...maybe one of the wood ruff keys in the cluster gear shaft slipped out on you...the one on the bottom can be a little pesky sometimes.

I replaced both the sleeve bearings and one of the main axle bearings.  It took me a while to find the main bearing, so it was sitting for a bit.  I did have some confusion when putting it back together. Im betting that I messed up the pinion gear.  I will check the shifter again, and pull it back apart sometime in the next few days.  Thanks for the quick replies!

When you get the casting apart, maybe take a few pictures and post them.  We can probably tell what is wrong by looking at the pics.  I did do a couple of videos that my help you also. :)

First thing is check and see if the input shaft is turning, not the pulley If the key popped out when putting it on(it happens) pully would turn but not the shaft

Somehow, a key, fell out of a gear!  When I opened the case, the key fell onto the work bench, I almost put it back together, thinking that I somehow dropped it in there the last time it was open.  Right before I did, I saw the empty keyway.  Im guessing the bottom gear being out of place allowed the key to fall out when I was assembling the tranny?

Boy, I like being right once in a while. :)   Easy fix...but I have to say for others...take the time to check the gears and shifting before you put it back in the horse.  Put it in each gear and turn the input pulley counter-clockwise and see what the axles are doing. :bow-blue:   Glad you got it back together and it works now...really cool. :woohoo:

I was hoping it was something simple and stupid  so you wouldn't have to break it in half again ..... I know how I feel about doing things twice

Glad you got it figured out . :greetings-wavegreen:
