CasualObserver 3,408 #29 Posted July 2, 2013 D/A Dual action as in orbital?????? Marvin Rotating and orbiting. Very common air tool. Takes a LOT of cfms to run it though. Need a good/big compressor. I have a 30 gal upright and it can't keep up with it.

oneroadkingman 53 #33 Posted July 2, 2013 Wow ken it's beautiful I need to learn how to turn 1 that quick I'm still working on my first one from 5 years ago part time lol might have to try that narly wire wheel man I tried the d/a and it just eats a paper like crazy .really does get a good smooth job.you didn't pull the motor out did you? Did u use Wheel Horse paint.
Ken B 3,164 #34 Posted July 2, 2013 For a work tractor I really didn't see any need to pull the motor, I make sure it is all good and clean. I then mask off the motor and paint around it, As for the paint, I used Rustoleum Farm and Implement I.H.red in a spray bomb. It goes on real smooth and it looks like I used my HVLP gun to paint it. If it last a few yrs. I'm happy. It won't take me long to repaint it and chances are I won't have it that long. The paint still hasn't fully cured with all the humidity and rain we have been getting, I have stripped paint using high stength stripper, sandblasting and the knarly wire wheel method. I only use sand paper after using the wire wheel to give the paint a better surface to bond to or when sanding down filler. Sandpaper takes way to long to sand tins down to bare metal. If you are using that crap sandpaper they sell at Home Cheapo (Diablo brand I think) to remove paint then you are in for a real treat. That stuff clogs up so fast it ain't even funny. Its okay to use with Bondo but with paint its terrible. I can't remember what brand sandpaper it is that I get at Rings End Lumber Supply, its Made in Canada though. Now that is some good sandpaper eh.

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #39 Posted July 6, 2013 Nahhh.... just saw in one of your posts about the paint and you will "most likely" not have it when it needs another re coat.... oh yeah.... you are not running a tecky on that bad boy so Dave really has no interest in it (I forgot) lol
JimmyZ 176 #40 Posted July 6, 2013 If I only knew where to get a Kohler to replace that Techy...hmmm. Someone may be playing hard to get!
Ken B 3,164 #41 Posted July 6, 2013 How come you sold that beautiful low hour 520? Certain tractors I don't get attached to like others, I had my fun with it and I was ready for a new adventure. If I had to give any reason it would be that I tow my 5x8 trailer around with fire wood in it. I don't want to tow with a hydro. I didn't sell it, did some trading. Trades are better than cash and makes the deal more fun. She went to a great home up on the Ponderosa. Now the question is, why did you get rid of it? Ken B 3,164 #42 Posted July 6, 2013 I picked up this real nice lawn sweeper from Craig, (AMC Rules Giddyup) at the BIG SHOW. I should have got one of these a long time ago! The Big Brown truck dropped off the handle yesterday Craig. Thanks for shipping it.
AMC RULES 37,127 #43 Posted July 7, 2013 Awesome Ken, glad you like it. Don't those things work great, have you tried dumping it from the seat yet?
Wheel Horse Kid 105 #44 Posted July 8, 2013 WOW! You are fast on your refurbs Ken! Great Job! That sweeper and 417 look like they were made for each other!
546cowboy 301 #45 Posted July 8, 2013 I don't see how you did it in one day. I use aircraft stripper when I do one and it works great. But when I prime mine I let it sit for a day as sometimes the primer will cause problems if not completely dry. After I spray the paint on it dries for a day and then wet sand and put another coat on. I let that set up for a while before I put the decals on.
Ken B 3,164 #46 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Trust me, one 8 hr. day. I've been doing this for at least 30 yrs. now. What can I say, I'm an animal. Aircraft stripper works good but its messy and requires a good amount of cleanup. Stevebo knows as I got the tractor from him on Friday night......
