How to change belts on RM-364 deck?

Recommended Posts

The original deck belts finally wore out.  How do I remove/replace the belts on the deck?  Looks like a major disassembly job.  Could not find any howto  any where.  Thanks, Jim

It's a very dirty job. You have to remove gear covers and remove (at least) the 2 bolts that hold the bearing stantion for the cross shaft on the belt side along with the other bolts that hold the deck hanger on. These are usually pretty rusted and often need a torch to get them out. If your deck has the single bolt to loosen the tension at the front pulley that's easy. If it's the double rod tension system you have to loosen the lock nuts and the lower end of the rods and turn them evenly to loosen tension and to tighten them. The belt side of the cross shaft has to be lifted enough to get the new belts under the pulley. Then you have to re-time the gears from side to side. When 1 blade is straight forward and back the other has to be straight left and right. Get lot's of rags! :)
