Niederwimmer 32 #1 Posted June 25, 2013 So I was tasked with cleaning out and SELLING everything I could find out in my wife's grandma's old shop. I had never even been in the shop before. Lo and behold, I pulled back a tarp and there were approx 12 wheel horse tractors. Almost all of them are in great condition from the best I can tell. I'm new to this hobby and I'm new to old tractors so bear with me. If I misquote something or say something wrong please don't attack I mean no disrespect to the faithful. It would appear that almost every one of these are different models. The shop is in Springfield, MO, and I live in Sedalia, MO. I've decided to take these up, about 4 at a time, and clean the gas tanks, tune them up (with help from my grandpa), and sell them. Yesterday was the first load and here is what I brought... C-141 L157 Suburban 400 Charger 12 (with deck) These tractors are so cool! I cleaned them up today and they look great. I don't know all of the models of what's left down there but I'm beginning to think that will happen much sooner than I expected. My grandpa-in-law (I guess thats a term?) was a collector and also took these tractors to parades in Springfield. One of the bigger ones appears to have a special seat on it for parades. The shop is also full, and I mean full, of hoods, grilles, belts, parts, and most of all, engines...for these tractors. This is going to be fun...any advice on where to start? I figured starting on here wouldn't hurt. Thanks!
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #2 Posted June 25, 2013 Where to start?? Start with snagging us some pics as you unearth these babies! Are you selling them off, or starting your own collection? Mike......
Niederwimmer 32 #3 Posted June 25, 2013 I will run out and take a few pics of the 4 I have here now. I'm really not sure what to do with them. I will definitely keep one, right now thinking the L157, and restore it for my son to play on when he is old enough. One or two of the larger ones look nice enough to keep as well. As for the rest...their fate is undecided. From what I've learned so far (in the last 24 hrs) is that they are for sure going to have to go to someone who will take care of them and treat them they way they should be. 546cowboy 301 #5 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Great decision! He did a nice job with them and the four look to be in really nice condition. Edited June 25, 2013 by 546cowboy
sned 15 #6 Posted June 25, 2013 You scored big time. They look to be in fantastic shape.
Niederwimmer 32 #7 Posted June 25, 2013 Best I can tell is that they all are in running shape minus some bad fuel and a dead battery. A couple even turned over after sitting for 3 years. That goes to show how resilient these tractors are I guess! This will be fun.
AMC RULES 37,127 #8 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) You shouldn't have any problems turning any one of them over to a good home... right here on Edited June 25, 2013 by MAYHEM '
Niederwimmer 32 #9 Posted June 25, 2013 Can anyone give me any idea on "rare models" or what is good/bad to find? Every tractor in the shop is in the condition that these are in, and yes, pictures will be posted as soon as I get them moved. I know one of the smaller ones, about the size of the L157 has a neat little pulley driven generator on the front of it with 2 110v receptacles on it.

rydogg 186 #11 Posted June 25, 2013 The more rare and desirable models to me are the older mid engine ones like the Suburban 400 or anything else with round fenders. Have you found any attachments....some of them can be pretty valuable like the sickle mower, reel mower, 4 wheel wagon, cultivators, etc. Also the early engines kohler k90 k91, Clinton 1200 or 1290, Lauson H55. Certain recoils are in high demand also. Pictures would be great to help identify some of the tractors and parts you have.
TXMO 1 #12 Posted June 25, 2013 I live in Springfield and have a C-160. I would certainly be interested and would like to get in touch. I am especially interested in any attachments and hitches if you have any to spare. I'll PM you and we'll go from there.
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #13 Posted June 25, 2013 If it were me I'd try to buy them all from my grandparents to keep up the hobby they started.
steelman 251 #14 Posted June 25, 2013 Nice find! It sure makes you wonder how many barns out there have a stash like this one. I would have a real hard time parting with these little jewells.

Niederwimmer 32 #17 Posted June 26, 2013 I've noticed the longer I sit and look at them and the longer I talk to you guys...the cooler these things are. I will definitely be keeping some of them. I don't have the space to keep all 12 or however many there are, but a few wouldn't hurt. Hopefully the boss agrees. Hey maybe I could keep one "for her" haha. I saw one of the show pictures you all posted that had an all pink one...she might like that. Or is that defamation?

Ken B 3,164 #23 Posted June 26, 2013 I think your Gramps would be one happy dude if you at least kept a few of them. They brought him happiness and obviously meant a lot too him, I'm sure keeping a few will do the same for you.

Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #25 Posted June 26, 2013 Being that most Wheel Horse collectors seem to know other Wheel Horse collectors maybe someone on here knew your wife's grandfather . Seems to me a guy with a collection as big and in such nice shape as the one you're dealing with that he might of been a member here or on one of the other Wheel Horse sites....Or maybe he went to the big WH show in Pennsylvania at some time?
