Well here's my construction material of choice (Free)

b243b70ad1dc8a62053a9ee038ec809a_zpse00b

A 16ft RSJ from the old garage! It's 3/8" so pretty chunky, but fun to work with.

This is the start of the centre pivot - kinda the most important bit of an articulated vehicle...

Implement lift pins and bushes from the agricultural merchants down the road seem a sensible buy compared with making them...

IMG-20130127-00136_zpsd85d5e4b.jpg

And a start was made on selling holes for the pin and bushes.

Here's the various stages of cutting and shaping.

b35d37741859e8318c28f0d66f56a9e1_zps6da7

And the plate that mates to the end of the chassis getting tapped to accept 3/8 bolts.

here's a quick 2D sketch of the pivot.

I'm sure this is going to be impressive stuff Mark and a thread to follow.

It's good to see that you've finally started the fettling process.

That bendy 'D' is my favorite (as you might guess) - maybe one day!

Thanks guys, I think I'll struggle to compete with Ian on the stig special....

I'm hoping to keep the momentum and ideas up and get it at least rolling by the end of summer. I've pretty well got weekends booked at shows and steam rallies for the next 3 months!!

Close up of the first weld - I love the mig! Even with co2 it's easier than the stick....

That's the first half of the pivot done, this bolts to the plate on the main chassis where the tranny once went.

I like it!! Currently wrapping up a build of a different color with that style center link. Should be tough for extreme duty- it has a 3 pt hitch and will be used for pilling a plow. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming!!

What I am wondering is how you are going to do that with two manual transmissions. Do you have a hydrical pump and motors you haven't shown us?

ahhh,

well that was the bit modeled in lego 2 years ago that's the secret to making it.

Plan A gives me 4x4 or 4x2, but a small transmission headache.

Plan B gives me a 100% locked 4x4 transmission

Plan C swaps to hydro...

Plan D it's an articulated tractor that tows behind another :)

fingers crossed another of the parts comes this week that I need and I'll get the centre pivot finished.

Whilst on on here, anyone know who made this nice conversion?  It's a picture I downloaded a few years ago when I started thinking, and I can't find any links or stories now.

As Neil pointed out I work 230 miles away from home all week so progress has been slow the last two weeks. Also got roped into some home improvement work by the missus :)

Anyway, managed another few hours tonight...
