1974-B-80 52 #1 Posted June 1, 2013 I just put a new head gasket on, changed the oil and cleaned the carb and cleaned the carbon out off the head. I had the engine running today and it was running pretty good, but it just needs a little carb adjusting but there was oil coming out of the crankcase breather. I made sure I didn't overfill the oil. The engine manual said to use 5w20 oil, but should I just use regular 30 instead if the weight of the oil is the problem?
MarkPalmer 81 #2 Posted June 1, 2013 Sometimes fresh new oil will vaporize out of the breather for a little bit then it will stop. I see nothing wrong with the 30W oil in it. If oil continues running out of the breather continuously the rings are likely getting worn. -Mark-
pfrederi 17,642 #3 Posted June 1, 2013 Just curious Where did you see the oil recommendation of 5w-20?? Never saw that for an H or HH60 even the sno-king versions were 5w-30 for winter.
