6wheeler 603 #1 Posted May 23, 2013 I need some help before I pull whats left of my hair out. Today? The score is Wheel Horse 0 and the lowly little JD STX 1. I went to put the deck on the 520. I drove it up to the shop and noticed it wasn't charging. So, somewhat knowing what to look for I check the fuse. Sure enough, it isn't getting a good contact. So, I bend the tabs a bit in the fuse holder, but they are so worn it will not contact properly. So what to do. I decide to cut the white and purple wires just beneath the fuse block and splice in a new fuse holder. This goes off without a hitch. Except, now it won't start. As a matter of fact, I have no power to the wires at all on the 30 amp fuse. I didn't change anything else. Now I am stumped. Any Ideas? So, not to be denied my much needed mowing time. I go back down to the shed to get my always reliable C-165. I hit the key, she whirls over like she is ready to get the job done. But doesn't start. Drag it up to the shop to find out the fuel pump is not pumping. So, what I need to know on this one is? What electric fuel pump have other members used to alleviate this problem. Then to top it all off. The wife says, "I wonder if MY tractor will start". Sure enough, it does. She drives off mowing up a storm. Every time I look to see how she is doing? She just smiles and waves. She is evil. When I turn the key on the 520 the relays click and nothing happens. Am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated. thanks Pat

tiggercl 28 #3 Posted May 23, 2013 If I recall on the 520 fuse block two of the fuses (20amp & 30amp I think.. ) are connected together on one side across the inside of the fuse holder via a common plate (two tabs are joined together).
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,029 #4 Posted May 23, 2013 Purple wire should also be connected to the red wire bringing battery power to the fuse panel. The white wire brings the charge current from the voltage regulator though the 35 amp fuse to that red/purple. Garry

Don1977 604 #6 Posted May 23, 2013 Connect one end of the new fuse block to the white wire. The other end has to connect to the purple wire and also the red going to the other fuse.
6wheeler 603 #7 Posted May 24, 2013 Gentlemen. I thank you very kindly for your help. The problem with the 520 has been solved. However, it is not charging at all now. I fear we may have a charging system failure. It does start though. Does anyone know how to test the charging system? Could be I just have a bad gauge too. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,029 #8 Posted May 24, 2013 Check and record the voltage across the battery posts. Now move the red lead to the Bat+ terminal on the voltage regulator. Should be the same voltage and if not repair. Trace it back to the 35 amp fuse you added. Start motor and see if battery voltage across the battery posts has increased. If it has it is charging. If not time to dig deeper. Garry
Wheelbearing 49 #9 Posted May 24, 2013 you need to get to the regulator and see what you have for voltage DC if theres nothing their then check the stator in AC mode on your meter. I have seen the fuse holder mess up time and time again. I final removed the holder all together and put spade connectors on all the wires. Then I connected the spade connectors directly to fuses. Then the main connector ( I think 12 or 16pins) has also failed on me and particularly the charger wire. Just start at the regulator. If you need a regulator or stator I'm getting rid of my onan and those parts are only 5 months old I'll sell them to you.
