8spd vs 4spd length

is an 8spd transmission longer than a 4spd? also, is the axle location further back, from where the trans mounts to the frame?

There is no difference in the axle location. Some 4 speed frames are shorter.

I noticed some of the 8spds had a 2" longer wheelbase, and wasn't sure what the difference was.
