Parrothead Al 17 #1 Posted May 9, 2013 Its been about a week now since I got the WH 812+4 up and running. I spent yesterday cleaning, greasing and rubbing around on it. But now it looks like I'm going to have to use it to mow. That is what I got it for in the first place, but I just hate to do that to it! That's what Wal-mart mowers are for. I can already see another one is in my future, just to putter around on.

Ken B 3,164 #3 Posted May 9, 2013 Wheel Horse's were made to work hard and cut grass! I still don't know what Walmart mowers are good for, nothing maybe?
leeave96 487 #4 Posted May 9, 2013 IMHO, they look better with with some dirt and grass stains on them...
Parrothead Al 17 #5 Posted May 9, 2013 I'm sure everyone is right, until I use it I won't really know what it is capable of. I've been using an MTD and before that a Snapper comet, So this is the first real machine i've had.
Kevbo 80 #6 Posted May 9, 2013 Trust me...Wheel Horses WANT to get out and eat that grass!
KC9KAS 4,741 #7 Posted May 9, 2013 IMHO, they look better with with some dirt and grass stains on them... Then mine look really good!

For the very reasons you're experiencing you now know why it is so very important to have more than one Horse. You're showing the early signs of WHA (Wheel Horse Addiction). We know these Stallions need care or their breed will become extinct. Fast as you can adopt a few more Wheel Horses! 1-Dozing 1-Mowing 1-Tilling 1-In the shop (scheduled TLC) 1-Riding on the trail 1-Grading There are many more uses! One with generator on standby duty.....just in case!
AMC RULES 37,125 #9 Posted May 9, 2013 ...and one just to look at. OH! I see you already have that one. Yeah, you're definitely going to need more tractors.
546cowboy 301 #10 Posted May 9, 2013 Ditto on the idea of the purpose of these tractors is to work for their keep. That's why none of the tractors I have are "Show Queens". When I "Refurbish" one it looks good but it's meant to work. If they aren't working they are deteriorating for nothing.
Jake Kuhn 1,554 #11 Posted May 9, 2013 Nothing wrong with mowing with it. And you can always buy another horse or 30! LOL Between my dad and I we have 32 wheel horses and 6 off brands and have only been collecting a little over 3 years.

LOL Between my dad and I we have 32 wheel horses and 6 off brands and have only been collecting a little over 3 years. Jake, both you and your Dad have serious WHA! To soothe the pain you two need two or three 500 series Stallions. That'll make you two feel good for a few weeks. The pain, the pain. Not much you can do but live with it.
Don1977 604 #13 Posted May 9, 2013 Wheel Horse's were made to work hard and cut grass! I still don't know what Walmart mowers are good for, nothing maybe? They are a project to see if you can keep it running and mowing long enough to cover what you payed for it. And don't hit anything with the deck it will fold up like an accordion. dsholler 54 #14 Posted May 9, 2013 Don, you really have trouble justifying what you pay for it? Around here the cheap guy charges me $75 to do my lawn, and $50 to plow the driveway.. not to hard to justify the $$ you put in, unless you factor in your labor rates at a pretty high value (like they seem to )
Parrothead Al 17 #15 Posted May 9, 2013 Well, So far I've invested $57.00 in the project and an MTD Craftsman. I will be buying a belt soon but all in all it seems to have already paid off. I just got done mowing with it for the first time. It is a little different than what I'm used to, what with not having to act as a counter weight to get traction on the hills. I think I'll just keep her!
Don1977 604 #16 Posted May 9, 2013 I have so much trouble justifying what what you get and what it cost for a Walmart or box store lawn tractor I would never buy one.
Tankman 3,518 #17 Posted May 10, 2013 I smile every time I see a "tractor" purchase going down at Sears, Home "Cheapo" or Lowes. A Craig's List, eBay, FOR SALE ad, Stallion, less expensive, always trumps an MTD. Appreciate the longevity, the design engineers (farmer mechanics!) did a great job designing Horses. Horses = Machines! I sometimes take a break in my barn, sittin' on a Horse, asking myself, "What do these good (Horses) boys need?"
Butch 194 #18 Posted May 10, 2013 I love hopping on my WH and going out front to mow. It's relaxing, therapeutic.
