Bought a 604 Wheel Horse on Friday in Mt. Vernon, Illinois

Recommended Posts

Lane Ranger

I picked up a 1964 Wheel Horse 604 tractor in Mt. Vernon , Illinois on Friday.   Pretty complete other than the replacement 8 Speed transmission on it.  Also bought an original snow plow for this model.

Despite the decal -it is no diesel.    Original motor, tires and lots of other interesting original parts.

:USA:  :wh:          Lane/R looks like it is all there. Maybe an oil rub down and it will look good. Enjoy the project. Gary B.....

The 604 I had when I was a kid was a Tecky right from the dealer.. Are you sure that Kohler was original? That's the 2nd 604 I've seen on the internets with a diesel sticker on the hood. Wonder if it was the same one?

Mike:  Yes TT tells me on Facbook that the Techy was the original motor for the 604  -so I guess the 6 HP Kohler was an upgrade!

I looked again and turns out the motor is a K-161-T recoil start Kohler 7 HP!  Even better yet!

Lane, is that hoodstand welded to the frame, I thought they only did that with the 603?

Nevermind, my 64 ranger is welded just like that one.

Why is there 2 shifters?

It has been converted to an 8 speed.

Nice score Lane!

Oh nice

That's a really cool idea to put the 8 speed in. Maybe I could do that with my 604

Actually it would really help to have the HIGH and LOW for plowing my garden or pulling heavy loads if I have to.
