Suburban barn find

Recommended Posts

Red Horse

OK round hood experts I recently came across a round hood Suburban from about 1960 or so. The number on the throttle/choke plate says 36064 and it has a 4hp Kohler. (model 400?) All looks origional.  I need to know if that indeed is what it is before I list this machine and sell it. I really don't have room for any more stuff but I hated to see it possibly get sold for scrap  by the guy I got it from.It has a metal white steel seat and the tires looks like they came with it.. The thing is a good candidate for a resto but not for me-too many other projects.

If it's a mid-engine with choke/throttle levers, then yes, it's likely a 1960 Suburban 400.  Pictures will tell the rest of the story, because as you know, parts are interchangeable with other models.

Well hey Cutlas we're only looking at 12 hours one way. lol.  Besides it's a nice drive.  I agree that pictures would help so I guess I'll have to load some up soon.

Jake, I am not but I'm sure my brother in law has been there. He's a big racing fan and knows a few of the NASCAR guys. I know one lives right down the road...

I am now the proud owner of this suburban 400. My 1st wheel horse.Every thing is in very good condition.the fuel in the tank is old and smells like turpentine. No fuel filter.Water in the fuel bowl. And i'm thinking i should get a rebuild kit for the carb?I want to get it running 1st then decide what to do about the cosmetics later.( only original once ).It looks like the recoil is not stock and i will need the belt pulley cover, and the exhaust cover.Where do i start looking for these parts? i've been on ebay but nothing has come up. Any suggestions of what to do before i start it? also I would like to put fenders on the rear. what should i be looking for? Thanks

The fenders do come up on ebay every so often .

Maybe someone on Redsquare has a set they can sell you

Nice score on the Burban. The two guards you need can take some time to find. They usually sell for at least 100 bucks apiece for clean originals on Epay. There are always lots of people looking for them.
