Purchased a wheel horse a couple of years ago and now have time to clean it up and make things right. First I need to know what model and year it is. Label on lower part of dash, were shift pattern is shown says serial 62-7715, the engine is a Kohler K161S serial 963676, SPEC 28890F. It has a push button start with a generator/starter.  Also with this I have a dozer blade, mower deck and snowthrower. Will get to these items later.  Charging system does not seem to be working but engine runs well. Would appreciate any help with id so I can find the correct info for repairs.

Sounds like a 701 or 702. I know my 701 (1961) had a push button starter that worked in conjunction with a key switch. Not sure what a 702 (1962) had.

Any pics??

Serial 62-7715 is a 1962 serial number.

62-7566 and 62-7857 are also model 702's

Engines numbers look like a replacement for the original.

Good section on the starter/generator in this manual

702 manual

Thanks all, i saw some pics of an 854 that looked pretty close, but I knew that was not the same as mine. i will look into the 701 ans 2 to see what looks right. I can see that I need to do some home work with more component id. will post some photos in the near future.
