Easy Acsess Oil Drain Plug?

Recommended Posts

Charlie Smith

Hello all, I was just wondering does anyone else have this, in all the pictures I have seen I can't seem to see it on anyone else's engines,... The oil drain plug is normally at the front of the engine, so you would have to take the bonnet off to drain/do an oil change, however I have this little tube comes down from the back of the engine and when you unscrew the end all the old engine oil starts to poor out,...... (Look at pictures) I was thinking if none of you lot have seen this before, maybe because it was once owned by the council they tend to keep there stuff well maintained, so if they where regularly changing the oil, maybe they fitted this to make life easy for them selfs?

Thanks,

Charlie.

Also here's the new exhaust,

Yes Charlie, the previous owner of my 417-A installed a drain like yours on its KT-17 series 2. Also my C-125 has a flexible hose with a threaded metal cap on the end of it coming out the bottom of the oil pan over to a strap for it rest in. They both make for an easier oil change. Thank you for the pics of yours.

Yep!, better than just a plug in the Oil Pan . Look's standard on my 2 Tractors, Although my 72 Raider 12 has a Male Square Headed Plug in the pipe   -

Possibly the techy that was on the Charger I have was a transplant engine but the drain is directly under the engine in the middle of the oil pan.  Put a pan under the engine and drain it straight down.....

The Kohler on the 160 has the same long drain as the others here.....

Richard....nice engine....... :)

i have an old K-301 with that type of drain. It does make changing oil easier but it would be better if the pipe was a larger diameter.   :dunno:

I bought my C-120 new in 1977 it had a drain like that. I put it on my Briggs Vanguard when I changed engines.

I'm pretty sure most all of the horses had that from the factory. My b80 and c120 have the same thing, lawn ranger too.

Just checked my Parts Manual for 72 Raider  (1-0311) and is shown there as WH part numbers. So WH had considered the easy drain idea.

That is a great idea..  Even with the extended nipples it is messy to try to catch the oil if the deck is in place.  A long enough flexible line to get out past the deck would make draining easier.  Every time I try to use the old coffee can sitting on the deck it wants to tip over or over flows.

Here's what I did. This is a 'Quik Valve' from Fumoto Valve. http://www.qwikvalve.com/ I've used them for years on my tractors and street vehicles. They are sweet. You can get them with or without the nipple on the end. I like the nipple because I can put a short piece of hose on it and empty right into a gallon jug or whatever. They are made for most any vehicle and you can also get the standard pipe sizes. I used a brass coupling and changed the nipple length so it didn't stick out too far. The way the valve locks shut it's really impossible for it to accidentally get flipped open. Clean and easy oil draining. Now that blasted oil filter on the front of the engine.......

I also like Paul F & Racinbob's adaptations , had a few thoughts on this as well, but no Decks fitted yet, so in no hurry.

The Shiney Shrouds were on my C-120/Raider Project (in Euro section), after I cleaned them up all by hand ready for painting. I would have left them shiney and polished them up, but had some welding and dent removal to do and there were a few little areas of pitting. Scraped most of the paint and grease off. Only a few small areas that had paint stripper applied. Then various grades of Sanding

Regards.

I like the idea of the quick valve. What exactly do I need to buy to make it work with a 2002 315-8?

Thanks

Just go to http://www.qwikvalve.com/ and find the right valve. I'd suggest getting one with the nipple so you can attach a short piece of hose to go to the drain pan or bottle. I used brass for everything.

My cheap-o walmart U1 battery is starting to bite the dust again (barely able to crank it over fully charged, and ozzing everywhere) after 3 years on my 68' Raider and I am looking into a new battery for winter as I now have a plow setup. I was thinking of either getting the original 22NF battery that came with it or running a mazda mita battery which is a U1 size. Is the AGM worth the extra money over the 22nF even in the smaller size? I think the vibrations keep killing the cheapo batteries and I am trying to make sure I can leave it out in the cold and not have a problem starting in the winter. It does get down to 0F or below zero every once in a while. I don't think I want to go all the way to a 22nF AGM as it is $200.

      Thoughts?

I am picking away at the k series on the raider10. Basically the Piston blew through at the ring grooves as it appears the rings may have had too large a gap. I can feel a slight erosion of the bore where the ring gaps All lined up, but not even close to catching a finger nail.
I am hoping just hoping out the bore will get it back to round close enough that a ring job will do .
In any case I can measure the bore and report back. Discipline demands that I do not tear this engine down right now as too many things are taking up my time.
Just hoping the gurus can offer a bit of guidance

Just recently had a 10 pinion differential axle gears lose their teeth as shown in this picture from a post in 2014.
Was wondering if others have had this happen and if they determined the root cause and corrective actions.
I am considering replacing the two axle gears and five pinions that were destroyed but did not want the same thing to happen again.
I assume the failure was due to a worn cylindrical spring that I also plan to replace.

Been looking at a lot or Raiders and Chargers lately and was wondering if they all have LSD? I know most of them did but I was wondering if some of the later models might have had the Uni drives instead ?

      Thanks, Robbie.
