1277 Refresh

Recommended Posts

While I was waiting for the paint to dry on the disc yesterday I pulled the 1277 out of the shed to start working on it. It has been in the shed for three years now waiting patiently. Here is what I'm starting with.

After a few hours here is where it at.

I have the hood. Had it off to give her a bath. This one is going back to my Mom in Michigan. It's main purpose in life the last few years has been snow removal. It has a few mechanical issues, worn throttle shaft, broken hydro control lever. Minor stuff. If you look you will see a golf club handle that was clamped on for the control lever.

Planned on spending the day cleaning parts, that got delayed by the wife. She had other plans for my time this morning. Good news is I got seat time on the 953 spraying the yard. Did get a bunch cleaned up this afternoon though. Shout out to Kelly for some parts. My brother stopped and picked up a few mower decks for the gt14 and a steering wheel for the 1277. Thanks again Kelly!

good start on the 1277.....

are you going to make the later belt guard and running boards a permanent thing or go original with the right belt guard and open with foot pegs?

personally i like them original, thats what makes the 67 long hoods unique!

but its your tractor and your decision.....

I thought I would give some history of this machine. It was bought new by my step fathers uncle. I have the original paperwork. This thing has been abused. I have almost all the parts cleaned up now and half of them in primer. My step dad doesn't have a very good history of maintaining equipment. I have found quite a few parts that have been repaired at some point. My goal is to get it in working condition and take it back for him to use. No plans on making anything original, I believe it will not be taken care off anyway. One hub was broke and welded back together, key way slots in both hubs worn very bad. Broken motion control lever, cut up belt guard, broken steering wheel, fuel pump needs rebuilt, throttle shaft needs a bushing,, ok now I'm rambling. I will get pics tomorrow. Bottom line it is rough and spending a bunch of time and money isn't worth it at this time.

Did some paint today. Started by running a cable between two buildings to hang parts from. Doing that I found this in the corner of my shop.

Guess I will add fixing that to the project list. Anyway here are some pics of paint.

Thought I would share what paint I used. I bought the line TSC is carrying now, Majic. I didn't want to give an opinion until it dried for 24 hours. I have to say I am impressed. I think I actually like it better than Valspar. I spray with an old siphon gun and it really laid down nice. The IH red is a nice color I think.

I know this is not correct to factory. Anyone have pics of what this area is supposed to look like? The parts breakdown shows a second idler pulley.

Also where does this spring hook to at the top?

Made some more progress. The motion control lever was broken.

I picked up a piece of 1/2 rod and made one up.

The next thing I had to do was make a belt guard.

Here it is painted up.

I also got the front rims painted.

Here are a few more pics. It isn't perfect but it is coming together. I have a few parts on order. Hope to have it completed in a couple of weeks.
