caseybgilbert 4 #1 Posted March 27, 2013 I am planning on removing the flywheel on my C-195 tomorrow in order to replace the stator. I have a timing gear puller which I believe will work to pull the flywheel. However, the bolts that thread into the flywheel from the puller are too small. I have checked all of the spare bolts I have laying around and none of them will thread into the flywheel. Short of actually loading up the 195 and heading to Autozone to try bolt fitment, you guys are my only option. What is thread size for the flywheel on my KT19s? Thanks for any help in advance
Martin 2,131 #2 Posted March 27, 2013 If the kt19 and kt17 are the same, thread size is 3/8-16.
buckrancher 2,679 #3 Posted March 27, 2013 good chance if she's not charging is the magnets have unglued from the flywheel
caseybgilbert 4 #4 Posted March 27, 2013 Thanks, I just picked up some grade 8 3/8-16 4 inch long bolts. I'll find out shortly if they will work. buckrancher, I have a electrical short and have narrowed it to the circuit between the regulator and stator. I figured while I was in there, I would go ahead and replace the stator.
SousaKerry 501 #5 Posted March 27, 2013 You may have to run a tap through the holes to clean them out first.
caseybgilbert 4 #6 Posted March 28, 2013 The correct bolt size was 3/8-16. I pulled the flywheel today and found this (see image). I guess the bolt was enough to short it all out. I put it all back together with the old stator and have 14.6v at full throttle. Now, I have a new stator as a spare if the original ever goes out. And yes, I did clean the grime off the engine while the flywheel was off. Instead of running a tap, I was able to clean the threads up with an air compressor and a bore brush for a 9mm. Worked great.
dbartlett1958 96 #7 Posted March 28, 2013 Nice, Did you determine where the "spare" bolt came from?
caseybgilbert 4 #8 Posted March 28, 2013 Yes, it is one of the 4 small bolts that hold the air cleaner assembly onto the carb. I dropped it about a month ago while changing out the fuel lines and thought it was lost for good. I even purchased a replacement for it. I guess I should have thought about the lost bolt when the problem arose. This horse was trying to tell me something (that it found my bolt) and I just wouldn't listen! haha. SousaKerry 501 #9 Posted March 28, 2013 Funny where them dang little bolts turn up sometimes..... Knew a guy who lost a 1/2 allen wrench while working on a plastic sheet scrap grinder (think oversized wood chipper) He found it when they started it up later that day.. It wasn't pretty and he don't work here no more.
