meadowfield 2,570 #1 Posted March 24, 2013 I took my plow and chains off last Sunday... What the hell - spring is here, lighter nights, etc.... We've since had the coldest march in 50 years and 6-12 inches of snow. For those in the south of the UK this is what a real winter looks like
squonk 41,017 #2 Posted March 24, 2013 YEE HAW!!! It never fails!! You can't take off the plow until at least the 2nd week in April!
Anglo Traction 761 #3 Posted March 24, 2013 Been waitin for you to post some pics of the Snow up there Mark. Certainly had a bad time of it up that way. I wonder if Stormin over in Cumbria has had some of it as well. According to the Long Range 'Farmers and Growers', it's in for another week of -3c , bitingly cold Easterly winds and a risk of Snow over Easter . Daffodils are barely out down here, over a month late. I blame it on either Climate Change or Lars has a giant fan in Norway pointing West
wheeledhorseman 574 #4 Posted March 24, 2013 Great pics Mark - thanx for posting. I'm getting sick of the weather, down here a freezing cold wind from the NE for three weeks started to dry everything up, then a week of downpours turned the fields into bog again, and now were' back to freezing cold again. I was outside working in shorts this time last year! It's a case of damned if you do or don't with the plow. Left mine on and there have been odd flurries even the odd heavy fall but nothing that's settled despite the temperatures e.g. a high of -1C (30F) during the day today. Climate change? Oh yeah, that was the reason given that we all had to have water meters installed this year in my region (not enough rain, don't you know). Also seem to recall that winters would be much warmer - yeah right on that one too! Andy
rmaynard 15,421 #5 Posted March 24, 2013 They are calling for 6 to 10" here in central Maryland tonight. Maybe the forecasters are wrong...again.

Stormin 9,981 #7 Posted March 25, 2013 . I wonder if Stormin over in Cumbria has had some of it as well. You can stop wondering, AT. Seems we have been in a corridor of little snow between heavy falls. Never had any chance of useing the plough I built. If I build a boat, do you think it won't rain. Stigian 1,234 #8 Posted March 30, 2013 Wow!! That's some serious snow Mark. I bet you had fun out and about in that!! Just for a change it's snowing again here today!! I don't think it will settle much if at all though..
Anglo Traction 761 #9 Posted March 30, 2013 Wow!! That's some serious snow Mark. I bet you had fun out and about in that!! Reminds me of the Winter of 62-63 when 25 foot drifts up to the Roof were common for 3 months.
Stigian 1,234 #10 Posted March 31, 2013 Reminds me of the Winter of 62-63 when 25 foot drifts up to the Roof were common for 3 months. Can you imagine if that were to happen "down south" these days!! Chaos, mayhem and plenty of snowmen being built
wheeledhorseman 574 #11 Posted March 31, 2013 I'm old enough to remember that winter - even living on the edge of London the snow was awesome and hung around for ages. By the time it did begin to melt the snow on our roof had become compacted into an 8" thick carpet that began to slide down the tiles producing 2 - 3 foot of the carpet overhanging from the gutters. Large sections would finally give way under their own weight and fall to the ground with a dull thud. It became obvious why people with conservatories had wire mesh guards fixed above the gutters on their house. These days loads more people have conservatories yet its rare to see the guards. Hmmm, if we are moving towards weather like that of 62-63 it could be intersting to observe. Andy
