What year and model are these?

I have two wheelhorse tractors with no tags. One has a three piece transaxle and the other a two piece that looks much stronger. Other than that they are identical.

I attached a photo that might help.

Welcome to the forum

The one in the front is a 1960 and either a 400 or a 550. Basically the same tractor with different engines

The one with the 2 piece tranny is a 1961 551

Thanks for the reply

Are these called commanders or just titled by numbers

They are known by the numbers and also a Suburban.

Just noticed you are from CA, those are more rare on the west coast so that's a pretty good find to get 2 of them.

What are your plans for them? Restore? Just get running and enjoy?

I'm still trying to figure out what is sticking up through the hood on the front one, the Suburban 400

Nice finds! I have never seen the "skid steer" type tread in a tire that skinny. Looks cool!

Captnb:

If you scroll down under the the Picture Gallery section, you will see many photos of each of your tractors there.

Also, all of their manuals are free downloads.

Very impressed to see those in California, any idea of how they got way over there?   . . . . . . (We like to hear the stories, . . . if you know).

They are very desired tractors and getting harder to find.

And, Welcome to Red Square !

Thanks for he info

The newer looking one I put hydraulics on for a scrapper and a blade on the front. I think I'm going take it all off though and clean them up to drive around the neighborhood with my son

I don't know how they got in Cali. I got bought them from a co-workers dad. He said that his kids use to play with them. I'm now a little more interested as to how they got into California. Ill have to call him and ask.

Welcome,

Nice looking tractors there. Also in regard to the tires, the Ag tires are going in the wrong direction, unless you always run it in reverse when working it. :ychain:

I talked to the guy I got them from and he said he use to take scrap to the dump for work and pick up old lawn mowers for his kids auto shop. Anyway these were at the dump and he picked them up and took them home.

As far as the tires I thought they did that for better traction. I haven't worked on that one yet.
