kaiser 100 #1 Posted March 19, 2013 greetings. i'm pete and i just bought a somewhat restored work horse gt1600. the previous owner painted it red so now it looks more like a 416-8. i've always appreciated wheel horse tractors but never had enough land for a riding tractor, but we just bought a new place in december with 3 acres. so now after all these years i finally have my own wheel horse. i did look at a lot of tractors before chosing this one, lot's of cases/ingersolls, a few allis chalmers and a few old cub cadets. my father in law really wanted me to take his restored '48 farmall cub, but it's just too big and heavy, the land we bought is rather soft and a cub would destroy it. once i saw this horse i just had to have it, it runs really well and has been well taken care of. it was owned by a wheel horse fan. anyway, great forum, glad to be here. here's a "happy as a kid" 40 year old on his new horse: 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

kaiser 100 #4 Posted March 19, 2013 thanks for the welcome. i had been lurking here before i made the purchase. it's got a 48" deck and a different rear end. the p.o. claimed the original 4 spider gear rear end went bad and he installed an 8 spider gear rear with a larger axel. he said it came of a c series although i'm not sure what the exact model is. it runs like a top though, i can't wait for the snow to melt and for the grass to start growing! kaiser 100 #10 Posted March 19, 2013 what year? model? engine? automatic or manual? these cars don't use plug in programmers like japanese and domestic cars. you need a chip or ecu "flash". there are a few good companies, unitronic, revo, apr, and my personal favorite eurodyne. it all depends on what's done to the car, what you want to do to the car and so on. i sold my 2001 new beetle turbo last year, after all the work was done it was @ 400hp. fun ride. This thread has made we wonder how many VW people we have on here (I have had 15 so far). i can understand how people who like vw's also enjoy wheel horses. the engineering is similar, build it out of good materials, make it simple and it will last for generations. i've had 12 vw's, so far only one wheel horse, but i can see that changing. theses tractors are just as addictive as vw's. i find myself daydreaming about other models, implements etc.... rmaynard 15,444 #22 Posted March 25, 2013 A little late, but Ditto's on the VW/WH thing. Over the years I have owned 8 VW's, from Beetles to Jettas, and like the VW, the engineering on Wheel Horse is straight-forward. However, just like VW, there have been some strange engineering on both. For example, I had a VW station wagon with a gasoline heater under the seat.
