Tankman 3,518 #1 Posted March 14, 2013 Had a fun call yesterday, "YO! I know it isn't red, it's yellow, but'll be a fun project up at your barn. Have fun." Pic was text'd to me, 1950 CAT D2. The thing runs, shop is gettin' "it" ready to drive off a trailer at my place. Engine and drive train were rebuilt a few years ago, CAT wasn't used since. Sittin', lonely, needin' a home. Actually the CAT was jealous of the care my Stallions were getting. Guess after some tinkering, red paint would look good! Besides, I could make a quick trail through the woods for the Stallions! Have I lost it? Too much time on my hands?
Torino 14 #2 Posted March 14, 2013 I have no place for it or anywhere to use it but I want one to.
1054josh 25 #3 Posted March 14, 2013 Heck no. What a awesome restore project. A small crawler is always a good thing to have around. I restored a Jd 40c that belonged to my grandfather a few years back and it is a handy little thing. Enjoy it and keep us updated with your project.
Wheel-N-It 2,969 #4 Posted March 14, 2013 Hey Tankman, give it a paintjob like you had on your Marine tank. My Dad was a tank driver in WW2.
Tankman 3,518 #5 Posted March 14, 2013 Hey Tankman, give it a paint job like you had on your Marine tank. My Dad was a tank driver in WW2.Hey! How 'bout camo netting? Gettin' to like this project already! Believe it or not, I still blouse my utility trousers when workin' 'round my barn. Spit shine my boots too. I've lost it! Mechanics are putting the CAT back in runnin' shape for delivery, probably next week. Yesterday they ran the pony engine. Couldn't turn this freebie down. The same benefactor gave me my '88 414-8 last summer. The 414 (thought to be a dead horse) was a thank you for letting my stone drive store some earth movin' equipment for a week or less. Tankman 3,518 #13 Posted March 16, 2013 Thats a terrific old crawler Tankman! And you got it for FREE?!?!?! I love the sound of that diesel...............................I know the supervisor / boss at excavating company, he pretty much runs the show; my Son! The company lets him do what he feels like doin'. The dozer was going to be scrapped, doesn't fit into their newer greater equipment future. The owners like my hobby, "Give it to the old man." Last year company purchased a zero turn mower for their corporate offices, "Give the old Wheel Horse ['88 414-8] to the old man." I'll take it, all of it! The CAT arrived at my barn today, more parts to come; i.e.: dozer, lifts, arms. Nice. Was a fun drive on my stone drive. After the blade is on, wo....wo.....WORK!
