1054 shifter boot substitute?

Removed the transaxle as part of a total rebuild on this 1054 and find the shifter boot is in bad shape, just about to crack and fall completely apart. Anybody found a substitute that can be adapted - there must be hundreds of different types/kinds around, just finding that one that could be trimmed/altered a bit to work here...

You can still buy the shifter boot at a Toro dealer (p/n 3577) or you can buy them off eBay for a few dollars more.

I dont even know where a Toro dealer is in my area - probably a good distance away if there was one...

 

Anyway, I went to our friend 'google' and put that part # in and got all kinds of hits, one on ebay had a decent price and cheap shipping, so I got one on order -- thanks for the tip!

Typical price on eBay and other online dealers is around $5 to $6 plus shipping. Shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks to ship.

Yep, $5.25 and $2.00 ship - I would probably spend 10$ on gas driving around finding one - then they'd say "got to order it, check back in a week" - theres another 10$ on gas...

i've used tennis balls before.

you cut them in just less than half. works great.
