High octane

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse84

So I told my Wheelhorse dealer that I use high test in my horse cause it has less ethanol in it. He stated that high octane fuel is worse for the fuel sustem cause it has more alchohol in it. He recommended 89 octane with a stabilizer. Is the high octane thing true?

First of all alcohol and ethanol are the same thing when it comes to gas additives. It depends on your location and the supplier of gas. We have one supplier who's high octane is ethanol-free, but others in the same town who's high octane has 10% ethanol. If you want to use ethanol-free gas in your horse, do a Google search for stations that sell it. It may pay you to drive a few miles to fill all your containers with enough to last a couple months rather than damage your engines.

Not sure about the Alcohol content but every time I fill the can I treat it with Sta-bill and an ethanol treatment. Works for me. :twocents-02cents:

Depending on the supplier it could be true. Pure Ethanol is 112 (minimum) octane so in order to make high octane gas they mix up to 20 percent ethanol with lower grade gas to raise the octane rating. E85 is 107 (minimum) octane and is made by mixing 85% Ethanol and 15% cheap gas.

Speedway's high octane gas has so much Ethanol in it that you can smell it.
