Onan spark plug question

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse84

So my onan calls for a champion RS14yc plug but had a rs17yx in it. It is hard to see but the bottom electrode of the old plug is is white and really thin like it wore away. What would cause this? post-6185-136200021615_thumb.jpgpost-6185-136200022506_thumb.jpg

The center electrode is the thickness of a piece of mechanical pencil lead. And white. Hmmmm maybe it was too hot of a plug.

the rs17yx is the new plug recommended by onan to replace the rs14yc. the electrode on the new plugs are very thin and it is a thin line on the whiteness of the plug between running good and running lean. if it is running lean it will be apparent in the cold weather. it will stumble alot when 1st put under a load if you know what i mean. it will also possibly need choked hard when starting cold or not be able to take choke all the way off in the real cold. i have a 416-8 that i have to run a little choke to get to run in the real cold but runs okay in the warmer weather

I went to my local WH dealer asked for plugs and he gave me the 14's I wonder why he didn't give me the new number

Doing a tune up this weekend, is the gap spec on the RS17YX the same as what the RS14YC called for?
