Suggestions for 69 inch or smaller matress ?

Recommended Posts

Hello All-

I am trying to figure out what I can use for a matress to put on a shelf (bunk style) going across the front of my enclosed trailer. Those of you who are campers may be able to point me in the right direction. The typical matress is about 75 inches long and I only have 69 inches max. which is more than long enough for me and my boy to sleep on at the shows. I can change the width easy enough. Anyone out there have suggestions (outside of having a custom matress made) of what I could use over the plywood shelf that I could put down and make a semi comforatable bed? The air matresses that I have found are also longer than 69 inches. Maybe some sort of memory foam? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks !

Steve,  Look for crib mattresses.  We had to get an 'oversized' crib mattress many moons ago,  I forget the exact size but it was well over 5 feet. The problem with the crib mattress is the width, you might have to get two and cut one to get the width you need.

Look for a mattress factory that makes custom size mattresses in your area and have it made to fit.

I checked out that site Jim and it looks pretty good but by the time you buy it and ship it the price is way out of my ballpark. I have a single bed that will be getting replaced with a new one so I may just see what it takes to cut the length ??

We bought a camper that had a matress that was about 7-8 inches too long, and hung over the frame and did not leave any room to walk.

Anything this is put together can be taken apart, altered and put back together!

My wife removed the stiching on one end and about 15-16 inches up each side.

We cut the top and bottom steel supports about 6" from the (rounded) corners and slid the end to make the mattress shorter. We removed the excess springs and put the steel back together with "hog-rings" just like it was.

We cut off the amount of material that was no longer needed, and my wife sewed it all back together.

My parents saw the mattress before, durring and after the alteration and wouldn't have know that it was a (home) custom job.

Check with one of the big truck dealers in your area ( Peterbilt or International or Kenworth). Sleeper mattresses are not very long. Most of them are memory foam type so they may be able to fix you up. Good Luck.
