It looks a very nice finish Mark.. Yep I did check them out at Ardingly, in fact I've just been looking through my Ardingly photos to check out the wheels colours..

Yep, cream certainly looks better than bright white  :handgestures-thumbup:

Not wanting to hijack your thread Charlie but as there are a lot of knowledgeable people reading this I thought I would ask here...

Is the red used on a 71 Raider the same red as used on all Wh's?  For some reason my brain is telling me it's a little darker? :dunno:

My brother reckons the red on his raider was actually lighter than the later horses. My c-101 was a good match, but the paint was rubbish!

I think the Belgian factory did their own thing... Plus it could be a fergie grey thing, never two the same anyway :)

I too agree, I do believe the Belgian ones where made a slight different colour. I'm not sure if the shade was darker or lighter. But I'm pretty sure the Belgian made WH's where slightly different then the Indiana built ones,

I've just been digging through my photo's and found this..

It's my now sold 74 Raider when I first got it..

Just about all of the paint had faded apart from the back of the engine and starter motor..

It looks quite a dark red to me!!

I agree, I think the early ones were dark too, but 40 years of sunshine/rain and being mistreated, the paint fades to the colour we associate with horses!

It looks alot darker then the rest of the faded tractor but to be honest it doesn't look much darker then other tractors. I think it's because the rest is faded it stands out more.. But also. I'm looking at it through a picture so... Can't say accurately...

This is the part I'm going to polish up later the PTO cone thingy. Even in it's faded state it looks quite dark, almost with a hint of brown about it to take the edge off the red...

The cutting decks and pulleys were a bit different on the early Raiders, I'm not sure which year they changed them to the more..er... normal style.

The polished part photos will be appearing shorty... Well, after I've finished my coffee, done the dishes and popped out to the shack.

It was around 1970 when the older style decks were started to be phased out, they were usually 36" cut, two blade with a bevel drive. The belt just came from the engine in the same orientation and onto the pulley. The later style is the magical mule method, with two different methods employed here :/

Well, I'm confused now.!!!

After a bit of T-cut action the colour of the pulley looked to of brightened up..

But after looking at the photos the really polished up bit's look to of darkened!!!

These two photo's were taken in the shack using a flash. The bracket on the right is from my 312 with original but rather thin paint..

P2240170_zps66d96acf.jpg

Taken outside with no flash... It all looks darker with the polished bits even darker!!

Me thinks I need to repeat these photo's when there's better light outside..   It's very cold and cloudy with the odd bit of snow blowing in the wind.. Not ideal for these sort of photo's.

Yes agreed the weather isn't ideal for colour matching at this very moment in time. But I second you on that, it's rather confused me.. Magic paint. It's a different colour every day ;)

People pay a huge amount of money to have their car painted with the paint that changes colour...

Maybe it would be cheaper to park the car somewhere the light conditions change a lot to get the same "paint effect" :D

I do still have the 71 Raider engine, but someone had repainted it many years ago so I can't check the colour on that..

Back. As you will see from these pictures, the hood and body aren't exactly tip top condition. But I did manage to find parts that where under the seat and had been covered in oil and grass so I wiped it off.. And it seems to be near as damn it original. :)

I love that hood... I'd keep it as it is and give it a wipe over with some oil once in a while to keep the rust at bay..

The good paint does look quite dark... I see a few new-ish looking bolts.. Has it been apart before or have you just replaced a few missing bolts?

The engine and a few bits weren't attached when I purchased it, so added a few bolts.. There not new bolts just a few I found laying around.

I would go with the Rustoluem Almond. I just think the Bright white would look odd..

      Evening,

Looking for a known aftermarket paint brand and color number match for my Toro 520xi model #73542. Normally I would have the local auto paint store match a tractor part, but due to Covid, that's not an option right now. Was hoping someone can recommend a color they have used for the same tractor, as I've heard paint with the Toro label is a bad match.

      Thanks!

My cheap-o walmart U1 battery is starting to bite the dust again (barely able to crank it over fully charged, and ozzing everywhere) after 3 years on my 68' Raider and I am looking into a new battery for winter as I now have a plow setup. I was thinking of either getting the original 22NF battery that came with it or running a mazda mita battery which is a U1 size. Is the AGM worth the extra money over the 22nF even in the smaller size? I think the vibrations keep killing the cheapo batteries and I am trying to make sure I can leave it out in the cold and not have a problem starting in the winter. It does get down to 0F or below zero every once in a while. I don't think I want to go all the way to a 22nF AGM as it is $200.

      Thoughts?

I am picking away at the k series on the raider10. Basically the Piston blew through at the ring grooves as it appears the rings may have had too large a gap. I can feel a slight erosion of the bore where the ring gaps All lined up, but not even close to catching a finger nail.
I am hoping just hoping out the bore will get it back to round close enough that a ring job will do .
In any case I can measure the bore and report back. Discipline demands that I do not tear this engine down right now as too many things are taking up my time.
Just hoping the gurus can offer a bit of guidance
