Club trip to see Fred Wilkes' Allis-Chalmers collection

  Despite a blizzard named "Nemo" raging not too far north of us, club members met at the Woodstown (NJ) Boro Hall Saturday morning February 9th for a trip to Hanover PA to see Fred's collection. One of our members lives up by Six Flags Great Adventure and had 8" of snow on the ground when he left home but when he got to Woodstown, the ground was bare.

   Our club president Andy led us through Newark Delaware, over the Conowingo Dam and down a dozen country roads until we reached our destination. I don't know if that was the long way, but it sure was the pretty way.

    At last we reached Hanover and Wilkes Enginuity Inc.. Fred's business and the HEATED warehouse where he keeps his collection. And what a collection he has! Besides his numerous Allis-Chalmers tractors, he has several vintage John Deeres, a couple of Allis-Chalmers 6 wheel ATV Terra Tigers, a Sheppard Diesel, a 1941 Allis-Chalmers/Dodge for the military, several restored cars and trucks, bumper cars, and a lot more.

   After seeing his collection, Fred gave us a tour of his factory where the do laser cutting and fabrication. Even in his factory there were a lot of tractor parts being restored or re-manufactured. It's amazing what you can do in a little "backyard garage" like he has.

Did you notice the skis that could replace the front wheels? We see some neat stuff on our road trips.

Thanks. It gets us out of the house when it's too cold to work outside, and since Nemo JUST missed us, we couldn't even play in the snow.
