James Owensby's Antique Tractor Collection (picture heavy)

On January 19th our local club, the South Jersey Gas Engine Club, drove to Cochranville PA to see this collection. James had an excavating business so his collection consists of Cletracs, Caterpillers, Monarchs, C.L. Best, and other tracked equipment. He also has a Buffalo Springfield.

Buffalo Springfield? Wasn't that the name of a band that

sang Vietnam War protest songs? "somethings happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear, there's a man with a gun over there, telling me I got to beware..........." Whoa, I just had a 60's flashback.

Anyhow, James also collects old dealer signs, advertising items, pedal tractors and a little bit of everything. It was a very interesting visit. It's funny, I've driven past his house hundreds of times and never realized what he had in the barn. He's only about 5 miles down the road from Charlie, wonder if he knows about it?

After the visit we drove a few miles further west and had lunch at the Dutchway Smorgasbord. Delicious! when we were done eating, some of us headed home while others continued on and visited the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in nearby Strasburg PA. All in all, it was a very good day.

It makes you wonder how many collections like this you drive past on a daily or weekly basis without knowing that they're there.. Next Saturday we're supposed to go to Hanover PA and see a collection of Allis-Chalmers and John Deeres. Oh yeah , and find a good place to eat.

I would love to see this Buzz. I've always been intererested in

Cletracs. One of the first tractors I ever drove. Dad used to repair

this kind of stuff and I remember riding with him to take a small one back

to its owner and stearing with two handles so I ask if this could go down

in the ditch beside the road and come right back out. Sure he said so I

gave a yank on the right handle thats when dad finished driving.

That was about the time Cletrac and Oliver went together, this one was

green but had Cletracs name on it. I must have been at least 7 or 8 at

that time.

Thanks Buzz!!! Your club seems to go to some of the best collections all the time. How do you find these places?
