perry 82 #1 Posted February 1, 2013 got access to a 42 acre parcel to cut firewood. and less than 2 miles away from my house. a family friend owned it but pass away years ago. and me and my dad use to cut firewood here in the early 1980's. i contacted the new owner/builder and was lucky to get on the property. have not been on the place in a long time. it is scheduled to be a subdivision in the future but untill then we have full access for personal firewood. Got the Allis B-110 suited up to go battle in the woods. been working the heck out of it this week and many more days to go. mounted both the grader and front plow to clear the old driveway and landing to setup on. benefits of having dual lifts [^]
perry 82 #2 Posted February 1, 2013 this area at home was empty when we started . I think we did pretty good for a weeks work. pics are from a few weeks ago and more wood has been added since. . these pics we moved to the north side of property . woods is more of a mess up there and took a little bit to get a couple decent logging trails worked in. you can see the new big $$$ house's being built on other side of property line. same builder owns those too. stevasaurus 22,683 #5 Posted February 1, 2013 Really nice pictures Perry, looks like you are not getting much snow either. Question...are you clearing the property, or just selective cutting? I used to do some of that...the old bones don't like that much work anymore. :)
6wheeler 603 #6 Posted February 1, 2013 Looks good Perry. You will have plenty of wood for awhile. When the farm around me was sold, they clear cut 9 acres behind my property. I asked if I could cut some for wood but was told there wouldn't be time. They brought in a CAT track cutter and in 3 days all was cut and stacked. Then came in the 750hp. tri-axle chipper and a skidder plus a very large self propelled stump grinder and 2 days later there was 37 semi loads of wood chips. It only took 7 days to turn 9 acres of woods into a completely empty soon to be corn field. It was kind of neat to watch because they would stick an entire 60' ash tree into the chipper and a minute later it was gone crown and all. It sure seems like a waste of good fire wood to me. I hope you get alot of wood before they decide its time to up the ante and clear it out.
perry 82 #7 Posted February 1, 2013 Looks good Perry. I hope you get alot of wood before they decide its time to up the ante and clear it out. only taken the fallen right now. after they get the clear cut permit i can have what ever. but would have to move fast like you said. . the property has two stocked ponds also on it. beautifull place. but sure is over grown since the last i seen it. I had to dig out some old photo albums and compare pics. I lived on the farm next door to this place in the 70's. puddlejumper 67 #11 Posted February 1, 2013 That looks like alot of deadfall and goodsize deadfall at that for 40 acres. Have a big storm in the last few years?
perry 82 #12 Posted February 1, 2013 Perry, this is all you and one other guy? yes two guys is all the liability waiver i have allows. wish i could bring in some more help. the land has not been touched in many years . my dad was the last one that cut wood here in the 80's. it was one of my dads best friends he met in the 60's. the owner did have a select cut done in the past and my dad cut up the tree tops they left. the property was sold around the year 2000 to the current owner. we did find alot of uprooted trees from winds over the years. there is alot of dead fall that is too far gone. TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #13 Posted February 1, 2013 Cool! I can't see the Wheel Horse well enough to ID, but that's a C or Super C Farmall with the front blade and maybe a 560(?) in front of the WH.. I'll be watching for you on the net season of AX MEN. :handgestures-thumbup:
perry 82 #14 Posted February 1, 2013 its for sure a farmall 460 . spent many hours on that with my dad . the guy also owned a orchard a ways down the road and dad would transport the tractors for him. untill the one day the owner decided to take the tractor him self and tore the front axle off going into a ditch. last i ever saw of that tractor. the tri-cycle wheel farmall my dad busted up trying to unfreeze it from the frozen pond after it died and was left there. the wheel horse i had claimed but never pursed it after the guy moved out . I tryed to hunt the 460 down but i was too late and it became a parts tractor
KC9KAS 4,741 #15 Posted February 1, 2013 You have quite a pile of wood there.....Do you have a log-splitter? Not the manual type (maul or sledge with wedge)....POWER log splitter.
perry 82 #16 Posted February 1, 2013 just picked up a project splitter -
6wheeler 603 #17 Posted February 2, 2013 Looks like you guys are doing a good job there Perry. My Jack Russel fully enjoys her wood stove time too. When they do clearcut it, maybe the tree guys will cut you some nice manageable logs. The guy that did the woods behind me was kind enough to leave me some, about a dozen 10 footers. He said, "I'll drag em' towards your line.Just get em' out before the land owner sees em' and stay out of the way". I sure did the "stay out of the way" part because they were haulin' a$$ on the clean up.
