Shuboxlover 478 #1 Posted January 29, 2013 The title was meant to read "Off brand WITH Kohler" Quick (or not) question for you guys...I have a Kohler (not off a wheel horse) and was wondering...It runs really well, no weird noise but it smokes upon start-up and acceleration. My question is...can I just buy a set of rings for it and put those in (as long as I do it properly) i.e. be mindful of the end gap and such. Or do I need to re-hone it? What if the cylinder wall looks good and measures in spec. What do you think?

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #3 Posted January 29, 2013 The bore must be deglazed so the new rings will seat properly. I have always used a three stone spring-loaded hone, but some prefer to use the flexi-ball type.
VinsRJ 721 #4 Posted January 29, 2013 It may even be the valve guides... which are replaceable.
