If you were to buy a new tractor, what would you purchase?

If you were in the market for a new tractor that could handle a good size snowblower, say at least a 48", what would you purchase and why?

Hate to say it but if I was going to buy a new machine it would be a Kioti. Probably somewhere around 35-40hp. That would do everything I need it to, plus have some of the neater attachments. Like a sander, full steel heated cab, snowblower on the back and a quick attach plow on the loader. That and the size of it I could put a large mower on it and be able to do my whole lawn in about 15 min.

I would not buy (and probably will not buy) anything made after 1990..ever.

(I will probably never go over the $1,000 level for a tractor in my life..and you simply can not buy a quality new tractor for that kind of money, they don't exist)

So I would buy a 1970's Wheel Horse model C to handle a snowblower.

Massey Ferguson has lots of little ones now and good dealers. I like Kioti also, but probly stick to 20-25 horse version. Used to like the LB19 model they had, kinda old school. Don't think they have anything like that now. Most are now hydros, when in past most were 8spds and had reversers for loader work. I have never been to a dealer or seen new ones yet and been looking at ads for 5yrs! Deeres mostly good, and dealers all-over! I think even the really big Sears line isn't too bad and cheaper than most for same size.

I would buy a compact utility, 25 to 35 hp diesel. I won't recommend a brand because I don't know what dealers are in your area. Having parts available nearby means a lot. In my area the John Deere dealer is closest followed by Case/IH, then New Holland and to be honest I would buy any of them if the deal was right.

The good thing about a compact utility is that attachments are pretty much universal, you're not tied to buying the same brand as the tractor. A category one 3 point hitch and pto are the same on any brand.

For me it would be a Ventrac with a diesel or a Kioti. Ventrac's are made about 30 miles from here so there are alot of dealers around me. The Kioti dealer is about 10 miles from me also.

I'm with Jim on this. Compact tractor with a dealer available. I don't need it for a loader or snow tractor but a 3 point and rear pto would be good for my gardens. Something in the 40hp range would be nice

With all these recommendations of non-Wheel Horse, non-garden tractors it's easy to see that even among enthusiasts the market for the heavy duty garden tractor is gone.

Any of the sub-compact utilities are nice. Kubota BX, Massey, Deere 2210, etc. Dad has a BX24 Kubota with loader, backhoe, and mower and it is an amazing machine despite the small size.

A simplicity would fit your needs very well. We purchased a legacy about 15 years ago and are still using it. It has not had very many issues either. They are great machines!

Kubota, because my best buddy sells them, high quality, easy to service, lifetime labor warranty furnished by him, not the company. I might be a little off topic though since I doubt I'll ever need a snowblower in lower Alabama

If I could have my choice and money wasn't an issue, I'd hop on down to West End Power in Danbury CT. (10 minutes from me) and buy the NOS 420LSE Wheel Horse they have sitting in back, waitin for me. I wouldn't cut grass with it but I'd sure as hell ride it around at the shows smokin cigars and pimp in style.

Local dealer is always a good idea.

I'm thinking, who still makes a good HD garden tractor. John Deere and Kubota first came to mind and they are pretty close to me. Does Case/IH have a small tractor? I think they have a larger tractor in their Cub Cadet line.

I should have been a little clearer in my question.

This tractor would pretty much be a snow removal tractor. Don't see it getting much if any work the rest of the year. Maybe do a half dozen or more of the neighbors driveways. Heck when I retire what else will I have to do in the winter

I've pretty much ruled out a diesel. I love them but I don't want to store different fuel and the cost would be too high for a winter only tractor.

It would also need to accept a good cab, be easy to get in and out of, take a minimum 48 inch front mount blower and yes I think a 3 point is a must, even if its only a catagory O that you could put a small blade or leaf blower on..

Four wheel drive would also be on the list.

Guess I should go online and see what my local dealers have for tractors and their options.

Having said that, I still like the way my 314-A and single stage work. Maybe I need to find a good, low hour 520 Wheel Horse and two stage blower.
